I thought I was preapred, but when the time came to fight Magus I died immediately from the 'Death and Rebirth' technique. And to think I spent all that time wandering the dungeon, collecting items, only to have it all thrown away by Magus. So, tips anyone?

I'm level 50 right now and using a party of Blackrose and Elk. Yes, Elk. He's too effing adorable. ^_^

Yeah, you don't mess with Elk. 8)

Honestly, I didn't know Magus had an ability like that when I faced him. I just kept destroying the leaves. Maybe all the leaves have to drop from his body before he can make them explode.

Yeah, I think the leaves are attackable. And I did kind of ignore them the first time...perhaps I should try that.

He can't use Death & Rebirth if you keep destroying the leaves.

Here's my 2 strategies!
1) stock up on items
2) don't die!

but seriously 1 healer and one attacker and one midway is how i like to go in boss fights

Oh and this too: <pulls out a copy of the .Hack guides he has>
Have Kite heal during just about every boss fight except Cubia. Set your party members to the appropriate skill set for the situation. For exaple if the boss is currently Physical tolerent, set your team to Magic! and then hang back and heal. Once you see the boss Data Break charge in and cast your Data Drain. Then run back and follow the strategy again. Be warned however that some bosses change there tolerance during the fight . Remember to keep a well rounded team so that they may adjust to the situation. I personally don't prefer using Wavemasters in boss fights becuase the lack of phsyical attack, but this guide says that for several bossfights you should.

Meh, my usual party consists of Kite, BlackRose, and any wavemaster available.

Have BlackRose do the hacking away, Wavemaster to heal, and have Kite keep using skill attacks (ranged) or scrolls-----ressurect as needed.

I hardly have problems with this setup. Just make sure you have plenty of healing items and the items to boost physical/magical defense help, too.

So do my characters. I usually give everyone the best healing items available. Wavemasters have the most SP reserves (and the more reserve, the faster the recharge). Even if wavemasters get KO'ed, they restore SP rather quickly. Just keep a supply of ressurects available.

WTF? Magus is a tree?! 0_o

Anyways, what I'm guessing is that you should stock up completely on items and then attack, heal, attack, heal.

Kite, duh, you have to use him. Black Rose...meh, I guess she's alright. But Elk? NUH UH. GET HIM OUT OF THERE. Replace him with the good ol' Mistral.
