What drew you to .Hack?

A simple question, a good discussion topic I think..
It's something I actually wonder about. What about .Hack made you get into it? Specific things about it, people, or anything?

At the time I was reading previews for the first game, I didn't have a Playstation 2 so I never actually thought about getting it.
Of course, when I got it, I eventually did, and I blame it on Access/Kyle/thepersonwhohatesmenow.

It reeled me in with the fact that it was a fake MMORPG and made me craving more and more hours of its gameplay (Yes, I actually enjoy .Hack's dungeon crawling) and interaction. I love the servers, the overall theme, the music, and the characters.

Then, when I started to watch the anime, it doubled. ^-^

The creative team behind project .hack were all involved in other stuff I really enjoyed. I knew it was going to be good.

just seeing one episode drew me in. What really drove me in was the storyline and the entire concept of it. One of the best shows I have ever seen.

For me it was a slight interest in the games after seeing their ads "Taking over the world has never been this much fun" that I saw in a gaming magazine. I watched the first episode of .hack//SIGN after hearing it would be airing, and was hooked since. Now that I think about it, I'd have to say it was the ads that got me interested, and after getting more info I was hooked.

I had heard a lot of hype about the game on several RPG news sites that I check normally. The idea of a game about a game was really interesting, so I would check to see how development was coming along every once in a while. When I first saw Sign though, it put me off, because I had absolutely no idea how any of it was relevant to the games I had been looking forward to (I was simply not in the mood for another psychological-type anime). Project .hack was simply just pushed out of my mind.

Flash forward about a year ahead, to Jacon 2003. I was in the dealer room, ready to blow all my money away on Cool Anime Stuff(TM). One of the little stores sold figurines, which I love to collect. As I was examining their wares, I discovered a little angelic knight that I absolutely had to have(A knight with wings! Two of my favorite things in one!). I went searching for his series so that I could give the guy a name, and that brought me back to the .hack//games.

The games were fantastic, and that warmed me up to the rest of the project pretty fast. I love the whole series now, but I've still got a special place in my heart for my favorite little knight with wings.

My friend got infection, it was a interesting game since I play MMORPG's and I've never seen smileys and acronyms of everyday online games used in a simulation before the game was interesting but I didn't realize how in depth it was, I heard there was a TV show so I bought the whole series and was terribly exciting there on out, so my friend got me into it from playing at his house, then I just bought it myself. The reason we bought it origionally was, we're low-grade hackers and the artwork looked silly so we're like why the hell not we got the money. So thats that.

When I first saw the ads that spanned three pages of my PSM magazine (the little sidebar ads, that featured Kite, BR, and Helba). I definitely thought it looked interesting; the character designs looked cool, the game within a game setting was original... it got pushed out of my mind when I'd learned just how big project .hack was because not only did I not have the money, but I thought it was going to be just another chinsy way for them to eat up the players' cash. A few months later, I was at a friends house and saw the box for //MUTATION sitting on top of his PS2. I knew he had most of the same interests as me, so I asked him if it was actually worth playing, and he said absolutely. He showed me the gameplay a bit, the Root Towns, etc., and I was hooked. I went out the next day and bought //INFECTION :D Of course, I then proceeded to spend all of my money catching myself up in the games, anime, and manga. Mission accomplished! I may be poor now, but at least I have my .hack 8)

I thought it was pretty funny seeing one NPC in a root town using leetspeak, myself.

Hmm... I think the ads in Playstation Magazine got me started with the craze. Then I saw the anime previews in NEWTYPE USA. So one day I was out doing my usual game shopping, picked up a box and read it. It sounded sooooo neat that I just had to have it. I bought the game, then in a few weeks part II came out, and so on and so forth. Now I'm totally addicted to the whole .hack experience, except the card game. Don't know if I want to get into that or not....

I do want to get a new vehicle... but this kind of thing makes me poor.

For em its kinda funny story. When it first came out I was like, watever. no one's gonna buy this, and for sure I'm not gonna buy it. Once in a while, I would catch a .hack//sign episode, but i didnt really get it. Then, like three months ago, I was desperatly searchiong for a new videogame to play, and I saw .hack//infection for only 20 bucks, so i was like why not. Ever since then, i have been kissing up to my parents for the rest of the parts, and now I just beat outbreak! I also read the first two books of the legend of twilight. the games are better, though (sry book fans!!!)

(the major big case of deja vu) and i caught here and ther a few episodes and ...WHAM!!! the bug known as .hack obsession hit me and when i heard they made a game for the ps2.. well i was just about to literaly go throgh the wal!! and ever since i got .hack//Infection.. i kept up with getting all 4 discs.. and that was the mile stone of my obsession.. now every staturday (well you call it sunday ) night at 12:00am EST i turn all tv's except parents's tv in bedroom to Cartoon network!!

I read about the game in an issue of OPM back in either late 2001 or early 2002. It talked about playing as a gamer whose controlling his avatar, and it sparked my interest. I recall a screen of LIMINALITY where it talked about what players were up to outside of The World. Funny, because it wasn't quite the way they made it sound. But yeah, the concept of the game got me hooked.

My friend played it and kept going on about it until I was so intrigued that I had to get it someday.
