im thinking of making a video game...

(Convonce me it a good idea please...)
itll be an action rpg or fire emblem style.
I wanted to know what a good free software choice is.
Itll be about a story i wrote, like .hack but not online (plotwise) but more of an emo fairy tale and sword clasher.
im using my own animations for the cut scenes. (ill post the story later).
Now the reason i posted is that i wanted to know what everybody wants in a video game. Should it be MMO or single/2 player? Good animation programs (again free(i have no money))? Good game creating programs (ihave gamemaker but imo it sucks(i cant make it work right i need a tutorial))? And overall what would make this game the best it could be.
(Dont expect good graphics im only 15 but i can get accepted at animators college(my guidance councellor told me))
I would appeciate help greatly. Or any tips.
Thanx, Elk_Wave...

Also about graphics and such, considering you're limitations, I;m sure the game will be 2D. Using gamemaker for this really isnt so bad and I think could work pretty well. Its only like 10 dollars for the full version, and the interface is simple enough to learn how to do some pretty interesting things with some of the graphics. Just a suggestion.^^

My short answer is no, you shouldn't.
If you don't have too much experience making games, don't be too ambitious. Start with something simple and work your way up. If you try to do too much too soon, you will fail. Creating a game is both more complicated and time-consuming then it appears.

Im gunna be downright blunt with you. First off, do you even have artistic talent? second: Do you know anything about game coding and the Hexidecimal system? do you understand how to make a game Fire Emblem style? just cus you want to do something doesn't mean you can. your guidance counsler may have said you could do it. but does he even know what you are even capable of?

RPG Maker is a good starting program if you are looking for fun.

Tsugasa-kun has a point, i mean you don't just dive into a deep end of the pool when you haven't a clue of how to swim.
i'm not saying don't try, i'm just saying make sure you know what your doing.
we would still like the story.

You should be a little careful about posting your story. I already lost like 7 to game companies already. its best to keep stuff vague.

by Kite.
Better yet COPYWRITE it.
I did it with a video game script I wrote.
(Take that Microsoft!)

What Tsugasa said.

You're 15. If you want to make a game, go ahead. But you need materials, and staffing, whether or not if you have talent or not it's near impossible to make a game on your own, even Fire Emblem style.
That is... unless you're a rich kid who can accord everything.

Not true, there are countless youths living with mom and dad (or whichever family style) out there making Flash games all the time that are really amazing. Just because it doesn't make it commerically, doesn't mean they didn't make a successful game.

Honestly, I could care less about your grades. Just because you have ability doesn't mean that it's acheivable. If this is your first try at making a game, start with something simple. Don't try to do anything complicated, as you'll probably just end up quiting midway.
Also, study programming. Not just in school, but also out of school. Read some books on the subject. Also, practice. Start with something simple, even if it's a direct ripoff of another game, and work your way up.
As for your questions, single-player, and use C++ to make your game. Creating a multiplayer game is quite complicated, and you should be as simple as possible. Since you've taken some programming courses, you should be able to handle learning C++. If you can't, then they aren't teaching the right stuff at school.
