That's the YEN to USD conversion, in other words it's the Japanese price, converted to USD, it doesn't mean thats' how much it'll be in the US.
I paid $65 USD per game when I got the original four back a couple years ago. They also came with a strategy guide and some other extras 'cause I got them from a Japanese person selling on US eBay though.

Game prices in Japan vary from game to game, company to company, unlike North America. Usually, however, when converted to USD, it's always more than $50. Expect each //G.U. to be $49.99 USD, like the first four games; they won't be any more than that.

I heard that the PS3 would be $900.
Buying .Hack//GU for $50 I think that should be high enough. Besides the price in Japan may be different from the U.S price. (I hope)

Because American games don't work with Aussie PS2's!!!

I personally thinkk it's a sales gimmick, I can see American-Japaneze games not working but... American to Australian? Guess it's the same with the American Appliance thing in Europe.

each country has their own unique 'chip' (probably something else but i don't know what to call it) which limit's the user to game's in there own country in (most likely) an attempt to reduce piracy.
i got my PS2 chipped so i can play oversea's game's so that doesn't bother me too much.
(and i don't suck for getting it chipped iether!)

Japanese Price =/= North American Price.
Its just how much it would be if it was in US currency.

it would be business suicide for sony to make the PS3 over 500 dollars. They would alienate the entire casual gamer community (which is the majority of gamers)
I doubt GU will be more then 50. No current Gen games are more then that unless they are a SE set.

Sony doesn't have the guts to seel them for that much. They would probably make less of a profit.
GU's most likely going to be a bit more expensive than the first four games, but not much.
