It's visual symbolism, and I don't think it literally exists. It's supposed to represent Tsukasa being trapped in the World in the beginning, and Tsukasa's freedom at the end.

Morgana's not supposed to have a real physical form (Some say The World is her form), I dont' think that tower is it... I don't really remember it from the series though.

Well it's only seend twice At the very being and sometime near the end. Maybe it's like the sever for the world, Also whats with the ocean sounds you hear when it is shown... that confused me as well.

It appears in some sandy beach server, and then again in Net Slum.
I believe it is some sort of "tool" morganna uses (much like the phrases) to keep control over her world, I think there either..
A) Used for watching an area.
B) Sort of like "Links" to the world, so, with the tower enabled, Tsukasa remains traped, think of them sort of like chains, when it gets sucked up into Net Slum (due to Helba's data collector) I believe this is how Morganna reaches Net Slum.
(Since you can see her effects right before they leave, with her voice in the background, and the area getting warped)

Thus leaving the copies of Tsuaskia behind.

The tower could also be the famous "Black Box" said to contain all of The World's core data.

Except that's not what a Black Box is. A Black Box is not literal. A Black Box is merely any computer system where you can see the input and output, but you can't see the processes of the system. Thusly, the Black Box does not have a form in the World because there is no Black Box. It's a METAPHOR.

Is that the thing with the static screen that was in Net Slum in the last episode?
If so, I could have sworn it was a giant cell phone...

It's just delicious symbolism, guys. Don't look into it too deeply. XD

And here I thought it was just a cell phone within Netslums being a metaphor of cell phones being used throughout .hack//Liminality and to show expansion of The World just as the beach Shugo and Rena goto in LoTB.

I'm not. Just wondering what the heck this guy was talking about...but someone confirmed that I was correct.
Yes, it is a giant cell phone.
And those "wave sounds" is the static noise...as shown in the third pic.

It's just a clever little ploy by which they throw something completely confusing, dramatic and unconnected in at the end of the series to keep us wondering and thinking, so we watch any further series they make. (Pity it was LoTB.)

It might be a smybole of God in the game. Not the real god but Morganna. Just a thought that popped into my head after reading .Hack//AI Buster.
