for no.1. I agree that it is a strange name though I only think it is semi-strange,

for no.2.Subaru as far as I know   subaru turned to an admin so she changed her costume slightly as admins can as she was the boss of the Crimson Knights so it was not against regulations for her to change her costume a little,though I am not sure that every admin can do that
 

and for 3 yes I noticed those as I explained for no.s 1 & 2

Subaru means "star" in Japanese; essentially she just called herself "Star".
The color change can be linked with the fact some Online RPGs let you change the colors of your character at some point in the game.
Phantasy Star Online, City of Heroes, Guild Wars and many others allow it.

Thanks for the info, wasn't aware of that.

No matter what it means, the car company wasn't out since the beginnings of the Japanese language, so I think it's safe to say it's unrelated to the Subaru cars.

Yeah thats true,but in that episode you see the real subaru in blue,wandering around The World.

I think Subaru took the idea from the Japanese name, and Subaru took her nickname from that aswell.

The pink/red dress was just to show that it was a flashback in that episode.

1: Yep, it's a name. And it just so happens to be a car companies name.
2: Subaru isn't an Admin, the Crimson Knights are only there to assist the system admininstrators in any way they can. And in some MMORPGs when the system makes an upgrade, sometimes character palletes are changed, or removed, just a theory.
3: Um... Ya, but didn't give it a whole lot of thought till just now.

Ditto to that, and beside this...the Wavemaster Tsukasa in "The World" is still and will ever be a guy...no matter who´s the player behind him in RL.

wasn't aware that Subaru was gay. Oh well, that doesn't effect me at all because I still loved the mystery, conspirousy, music, characters in .Hack/Sign.

In some description I heard that .hack//SIGN was abotu a lot of things, and one of them were love.
It was on a scan a magazine had... I'll have to find it again.
But yeah, they could both be straight and fall in love, it's not always about sex, especially since Tsukasa's young (As well as Subaru) and Subaru's in a wheel chair (Not that it means she isn't sexual, but it might have some effect).
