I got my Book of Twilight 2018 Daily Planner today and it has the birthdays of (some) GU characters listed so I figured it'd be a nice little fun bit of info to share:

I always thought he was 30 minimum. I know I know, anime, 20-something is old person territory, but I thought better of .hack for some reason >_>

According to the wiki Aina is 12 which is wow. That may be an even more extreme sis/bro age difference than Reiko/Jun.

Assuming she's also 12 in the G.U. novels and that Ovan is also 24/26/28 umm, well... considering she's his... well maybe its best ta not think about this >_>;;

GU Novel Ovan is in his early 30s I believe by the description of his life given by Pi so Aina being 12 wouldn't be odd. I do think she might be slightly younger in the novels, but it's been awhile since I read them and I...don't really want to read them again...

The age gap between my father and his only sister was 14 years too, so these things actually happen.
If Aina is 12, that would make Ovan around 26 in this case which sounds about right. I would prefer him to be a bit older though.
This is something I hope will happen in next .hack installments: more older characters. GU was great, but it was somehow the most "teeny" arc of .hack (despite having Pi and Yata) and I always loved the chemistry between children, teenagers and "older" adults in .hack like Bear, BT in SIGN and so on.

Not to mention that most adults of this series are pretty great; think of Flügel, Ovan, David, Yeats or (for me personally at least) Ginkan and so on.
I kinda love how each character provides a different point of view here. You see the teens worrying about bullying, love problems or games, while the older ones talk about the job, are chain smokers or people in charge of a child (be it adopted or a young sister like Aina).
Most anime hate age variation like this and only feature highschoolers, but this is another point in which .hack is just better than the mainstream.

Endrance and Silabus have their birth years changed, aren't they? because wikia says that Kaoru was born in 96 and Yuuichi is 97.

Ovan and Aina could also be siblings through a second marriage. Easy for an age difference then.
