Just a personal opinion, but I never quite get the "I have less time now I'm older" thing. When I was a kid and lived with my parents, I'd have school all day, then homework at night, I'd be expected to sit with my parents and talk with them a lot of the night too. If I played on a game for about an hour and a half, my mom would be like "YOU'VE BEEN ON THAT THING FOR HOURS NOW!" and I'd have to stop. I understand the implication is you have more responsibilities as an adult, but you also have more control over your life and more ability to set your own goals and so on.

I would say that broadly games take longer than they used to. I was amazed when I played Ocarina of Time about 3 years ago on the 3DS and in one session got into the future portion of the game. As a kid, it took me at least a week to get to the part when you're adult Link. Completing each dungeon was an epic achievement back then. Now I sat there for about 3-4 hours and was in the future. Another session and I'd nearly completed the game. It was very strange. People knock games like The Order for only taking about 6 hours to complete, and yet the classic Mario games can be beaten in about 2 hours.

Anybody got any idea why G.U is cheaper than your average PS4 game on the Playstation Network store? Most games of the same caliber tend to cost around $59.99, while G.U is simply $49.99.

Most remasters are priced cheaper than most games. The physical copies are only going for $49.99 as well.

It was only £28 ($37) on Amazon UK although it went up to £40 ($52) after release.

It seems like Bandai Namco didn't have much faith in it. It was unusually cheap and badly stocked.

I was a latchkey kid so the free time of an adult is nothing like what I had when I was younger lol
I'll agree games have gotten longer mostly because there's not really space limitations like there were back in the day. (though I think too many games get caught up in the open world 100+ hours thing these days...I miss good ol' 30 hour story based RPGs...)
---
The price seems normal for a remaster and I think the lower price point in general is better for GU since it lowers the barrier of entry. I've seen plenty of folks on Twitter and MMOs I play actually giving steam copies away because it's a good price and we've got a crazy dedicated fanbase!

Something that I felt when I first played these games but just came back qutie strongly is how the latter stages of Vol 1 feel quite rushed and odd - like how it leans WAY to heavily on ranking up in the arena to pad itself out - and then how long Vol 2 takes to get back on track again. There's a really strong loss of pace and momentum as Vol 1 moves on, and as Vol 2 starts we have the "everyone's stuck in The World" opening act which feels like something that should've been fleshed out more. Though it does at least inject the plot with some much needed momentum again.

It feels like the type of story that was written backwards, so naturally the first act is kinda sparse. I replayed Vol. 1 last year and I remember feeling the same way. You beat Endrance and then suddenly Yata just says "uhhh yeah we found Tri-edge" and then the credits roll.

Anyone know why Alkaid won't respond to my greetings cards? I sent one and hours passed without a response and now I've sent a few more and still no luck. Are they all hanging back until a certain plot point?

I feel like the first half of volume 1 was like "people probably watched roots so we don't have to explain this" and then the second half went "okay wait no we gotta explain it". Rebirth isn't that strong plot wise; it pretty much just used for setting up the general plot framework for the next volumes imo.

@Matroska
I think some of them get held back by plot progression or something simple like having to have her in your party and running around doing some dungeons. I remember having this issue with Saku back in the day. She never responded to me ever until I ran a dungeon with her and Endrance...

Thanks. Another question: how the hell are you meant to do the bike time trials? I remember them being a bit annoying but this is ridiculous. I have my bike as upgraded as possible from the shop by the guild building. Despite that I'm still 2-3 seconds off the top time on each course I've tried, and I've tried quite a lot. I know the cheat but I'd rather not resort to that.

I just did the cheat. The more you do the more pieces you'll unlock from the bike guy himself which should also make your bike faster. Good luck!

Thanks again - and another question! I can't seem to get any new Crimson VS cards. I've got literally hundreds of cards since the last new one. I have 13/85 left so roughly 1/6 should be new (not accounting for card rarity, admittedly) and I estimate I've got about 500-800 cards (which keep being discarded since I have too many dupes) since the last new card.

So is it plot gated? Anything like that? Or is this just extremely unlucky RNG?

Crimson VS packs are RNG, but you get different packs the higher your rank. So just keep winning and eventually you'll get all the cards.

Anyone else go through the forums right away and feel weirdly nostalgic? Not these forums (that happens too) but the ingame forums? I saw OhmRice and got nostalgic like reading an old forum friends posts! XD

Similar topic but man some of these concepts were hilarious in hindsight. M2D only $420 dollars when the vive is like $600+ and not at all mobile! Google glass flopped at over $1k! And posters were complaining about the $420 price tag. And the posts about bringing back R:1, it was oddly reminiscent of the current legacy servers thing with WoW since Cata replaced that stuff.

It's like a future-past time capsule!

Not to mention they literally called out microtransactions in one of the News posts. It's quite eerie the amount of things you see in the fictional news in-game that are present issues in the world we live in. Also Hi I'm sorta new here. Just getting back into .hack with Last Recode. I miss being hyped for .hack! We back :)

It reminds me of how prophetic the first Deus Ex and Metal Gear Solid 2 were.

Kinda old news now, we talked extensively about it on our Discord, but here is the recent interview with the CC2 President and Namco .hack Producer. They talk about how LR was decided to be remade, how loyal the fanbase is, and that they'd like to do more .hack in the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkSUdAlGctw&t=307s
