Server Crash was all he could see. It flashed in front of him every 20 seconds. A loop that would have shut off if someone had found the problem. Devin was an engineer for a recently developed science project. Project 60.
“Devin! Roddy! Kyler! You need to go down a floor to the bird section! A few of the Pods have been overcharged. Please send your full report the moment you finish.”
Devin sighed and lowered himself back on the platform. It was always something. He hardly could get his own work done with him being called on all the time. Kyler slid into his spot next to him, followed by Roddy.
“There is one on every section,” Roddy whispered to Kyler a little too obviously.
“Do it yourself?” Kyler questioned him without taking notice of Devin almost as if he didn’t care who heard him.
“Going down,” Devin announced to his small crew as he pressed the green Down arrow on the platform. t
There was almost no noise as they approached the floor below them. The platform was attached to the middle of the tower. The only way to get to another floor was to slide around it using the platform, or walk down four flights of steps. Most took the platform.
As it slowly slid around the columns Devin read the names of several experiments, but stopped the platform when he came to an experiment simply titled, DAVID. It was Devin’s personal experiment. A normal boy, infused with the DNA fragments of a Lion and a Black Mamba.
It had long reddish-brown hair flowing from it’s head like a mane, Sharp claws, Splotches of brownish scales, the whole inside of it’s mouth, including its’ fangs, was completely black. It had the ability to spit it’s poison or inject it through its’ fangs. It was a bred killing machine. Unfortunately, Devin had never had the chance to see if it truly was.
Devin had only enough time to see two things, Kyler ducking, and Roddy smiling. He blinked and was on the floor of the platform. Sliding down it slowly as the weight of it unbalanced. The left half of its support had been completely blown off in the blast.
He reached out for something, some way to save himself. Only there was nothing. Being so high in the air, he’d probably die from the impact.
As he fell his hands glided over DAVID, and found the release switch. But he caught nothing to stop his fall. He rolled around in mid-air and faced his fall. I won’t complain. I tried to live, and I was denied. Goodbye…Mary…he thought in his last seconds of life.
David’s eyes flashed open, revealing two cat-like pupils, surrounded by a greenish yellow iris. David gasped. Once, twice, and then he fell back into his pod, unable to breathe. He coughed, greenish liquid spewing from his black mouth. His eyes widened with fear of death, and then…nothing.
David’s lungs began to inflate and vice versa. He was breathing. As if he was born again but older.
