Well I've had it in my laptop for some time now and I have it on my PS3 now, basically its a blend between a bullet hell and fighting game it has offline multiplayer but no online multiplayer, still its kind of fun to play especially on hard, it also has some trophies up for grabs.
here's the official website:

it is like touhou since it was a bullet hell game on PC before, on a side note the character's dont get defeated with just one blow, you have to deplete their health(which is three layers) to zero, but you take in more damage if you overheat yourself by either zooming around to much or using certain attacks.

I picked up that much from the fact that it's part fighting game.
However, the whole 'overheating' factor adds in a need for a strategy that's wholly different to the average, run o' th' mill fighting game.

Do the types of ranged attacks vary between characters? Like say you had one who uses fast, accurate blasts with little spread, or someone who uses what would effectively be 'shotgun spray' to damage their foes?

It varies between character's, in the case of Suguri she is the balanced type and can use laser's which do moderate damage but little spread, her blades which are devastatingly powerful but short ranged, and missile's but they can be intercepted if you're fast enough, and some character's like Nanako use floating "bits" and can attack with multiple shots with wide spread but not very accurate, then there's Kyoko who can use ice oriented attacks and can create blocks of ice than can turn your own lasers against you and even make them home on you(like the homing laser in Z.O.E), and all characters can fill up their hyper gauge to pull off some pretty powerful attacks, but charging it is a hassle because you either need to attack your opponent or boost and let your opponent go through the trail of rings behind you since it charges up twice as fast, but using the hyper gauge is a double-edged sword because:
Positive: you could annihilate your enemy real fast.
Negative: you overheat real fast as well.
