Fighting to register !

Just a small note about the ergonomy of the forum. I just registered, but it was not so easy...

Step #1 : Well, first, find the register page. No link, no button, nothing. After I remembered that most forums propose a link to register after a fail to login. I inserted some random chars, clicked login, then woohoo : error + register link.

Step #2 : An epic battle took place here... Totally insane captcha spotted. I have never seen such a pixel mash blended with this kind of lsd jam. I didn't count how many times I refreshed the register page to get a readable captcha, but this was probably too much.

Samples :

Step #3 : Now trying to find if the captcha problem has been notified somewhere in posts... Search button, search button... Where are you, search button ? :'(
Luckily, I noticed the mention "Powered by phpBB" at the bottom. I have a bit of experience with this BBS, so I knew that it was search.php, but nothing obvious...

I just posted to make the community notice these facts (if this is not done yet). Take a pure Internet newbie, and put it into the dothackers.net registering game : how many steps will he passed before leaving the forum ?
I know that fighting against bots is not so easy when using pre-made forums, but waw, with such a system, the forum repels most potential members. And sadly, without members, a forum is nothing ^^.

Top right corner of the page. I don't think it's that hard to see unless you use 800x600 or something (but who uses that nowadays?).

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not using this kind of resolution, but I always have browsers windowed (Windows 7 splitting :3). This seems a bit strange in term of design, but I should have noticed the horizontal scrollbar, however.

When you are not logged in, the Register button is in the top right of the window. Next to the FAQ and Search buttons. It might be a little out of the way, but it does exist. Of course, if you've got it windowed then you might be cutting those buttons off when you're just looking at it.
I don't know what to say regarding the captcha thing. They're meant to be a pain?

"Pain" is a bit too much, "pretty annoying" sounds good. In a dark room it is easier to read (though it remains tricky), in other cases it's juste hard to decrypt. Captchas must block bots, not humans.

You have to get special 3D glasses to read the Captcha now, duh! Registration now works another (I have to manually approve new users... fun!) way until phpBB fixes their Captcha algorithm, a never ending battle!
