It's almost here! Can't wait to get my copy tomorrow, though I might not get a lot of time to play it since my little bundle of joy decided it was time to come out right around the time when this highly anticipated title was releaseing. > > Anyway, this week's been good. Who's getting it?

Am I to understand that this is going to install the same way Modern Warfare 2 did in that even if you buy the retail disk it will just install it on Steam?

I'm not particularly phased by this.
Imho, next Half-Life game is going to be more worth the wait.

A friend of mine just did the midnight release thing, I honestly don't know why people still buy CoD, it gets hacked within a week of release and everyone complains then rage-quits.

I know for a fact that my friend is going to play it for about 3 weeks, get bored of it, then complain. Just like he did with Modern Warfare 2. He got Halo:Reach and didn't even play the storyline or mess with forge before he got rid of it a month later.

>The reason why I dislike most multiplayer centered FPSs

>My theory-Hate on it as much as you like;

Games were never meant to be 'solely multiplayer', that was just an addon that was meant to up the fun factor, which everyone thought was awesome as hell.
When games started focusing on this aspect of 'multiplayer' as not a simple addon/ extra feature, but 'the main selling point', they began to get ****. Why? They lost pretty much every single ounce of originality and plotline to the gaping maw of 'DEM GRAFIX' and 'HURRDURR MULTIPLAYER GOOD SCREW THE STORY' that welled up from those gamers we know oh so well as 'casuals'.
Because of this, people started thinking of ways to make a multiplayer experience that was godly enjoyable, with an infinite amount of possibilities... That was fine and good, until the 'hackers' showed up and 'ruined everything'; 'HERPADERP I DUN WANNA PLAY BECOS I KEEP GETTIN' BEAT BY TEH CHEETURS' <--(N00b reaction to being killed by a more experienced gamer) causing the N00bs to abandon their games and do something else-casuals.. *twitch*..-but then the REAL hackers appeared, and prompted the same responses from the more experienced gamers, who then did exactly the same thing that the so-called N00bs did; quit the game to do something else-once again; casuals.. *twitch*..-Ergo, after a few days the game that was once 'so much fun' becomes another 4chan; a hellhole filled to the brim with trolls, hackers and cancer.
After reading this, you'd probably think that I had a bad experience with an FPS game involving hackers, and as such, why I'm 'being a complete hypocrite'; but then you'd be wrong.
I don't have the opinion that 'IF DER WERE NO HACKERS IT WOULD BE TEH WINS LOLOLOLLOJBIUNGLIi', simply because as long as games like this exist that pit humans against humans, people WILL resort to cheating to boost their self-esteem. How so? Because humans are f*cking selfish.
As for the second reason why 'multiplayer centralised = formula for complete balls', What happens when you get bored of the multiplayer? Don't tell me that it doesn't happen, it happens with everything, even the typical game. However, because multiplayer often attracts 'casuals who can't be f*cked to play a REAL game'-not that I mean any offense to some of you who may not be casuals-the second they feel a slight ounce of boredom, they stop playing the game altogether. And for the more experienced players; What Single Player? Ergo; 'multiplayer = centralised' is what's turning the gaming industry into something that produces 'technicoloured money-draining black holes'. Sure it looks nice, but in the end it's worth nowhere near what you forked out in order to get it, and it doesn't give you anything in return-not even satisfaction at 'completing the game'-once you drop it for good.
So what is my overall point? Story, Characters and Choice concerning what you want to do within a game are what makes that game a game; It's supposed to be another world that you can immerse yourself in, a complete escape from reality, not just a way to blow off steam and pass the time. Sure, multiplayer is a nice addition to any game-but let's just leave it at that; an addition. The second you prioritise multiplayer and 'DEM GRAFIX' over the game's essence, you help to destroy the gaming industry-or at least help to change it for the worst.

Please, think for a few seconds before you purchase that copy of COD:BO

Is it really worth it?

Oh no. Not a new CoD... No... I have two house-mates who love the hell out of that series... They spend their nights yelling at the TVs (which are at volume 50). Finals are coming up soon, I need my sleep! :(

Okay, so when taking my friend to work he mentioned something that already makes the game seem worthless. Its only been out half a day and someone's already Rank 40, which means they either used a modded 360 or stole an advanced copy of the game AND had other people to play against... Still though it'd be impossible since the servers only became active on Friday and 4 days isn't enough time to get that far, even by hacking.

This only proves that too much time was spent on getting the game up to hype, and not enough time was spent on the fine-tuning...
Especially seeing as it's a multiplayer centralized game, that's a pretty bad sign.

After watching/reading some reviews of this game I immediately purchased my copy on NewEgg. I fully expect to spend this weekend playing through all of it. From what I've seen of it I would easily say this one looks orders greater than Modern Warfare 2.

Payed a little Nazi-zombies with that friend. Its too dark to see even their eyes, you're screwed from the get-go, and hell hounds are too difficult. I managed to kill 10 of those mutts before getting killed while staying by my friend so I could revive him when they backed off, but more just kept coming!

I waited for fallout 3(the van buren one) when I heard they canceled it, I managed to wait for it since 2000 when I was in grade school and I can wait for a VERY long time for the fourth one rather than buying a game that only focuses on multiplayer.

Black Ops is so better then MW2. They took out the broken things like stopping power, killstreaks stacking with each other, and nukes. I shall it for the Wii with my spare money.

I finally received my copy in the mail today and completed the campaign today. All anyone needs to know about Call of Duty: Black Ops is that it's the game Modern Warfare 2 should have been. I was apparently one of the few people who recognized what a great game Call of Duty: World at War was, but after this title Treyarch has become what Infinity Ward used to be. I base this on my experience with both the multiplayer and the single player.

Agreed on every point. The multiplayer is balanced. No severely overpowered perks like juggeurnaunt, stopping power, or commando, no crazed noob tubers, RPG carriers, or claymore spammers, (since the scavenger perk doesn't replenish equipment like in MW2). Even with the people who spam explosives, the flak jacket perk pretty much makes them utterly useless. The single player campaign is absolutely gorgeous. The story is immersive and vivid, to the point where I almost cried at how beautiful everything was. Seems Infinity Ward passed the torch this time around.

My cousin recently got the game but we ended up arguing when he saw me playing MGS4 and said that COD was better and that solid snake was a *****, I simply kicked him in the groin and snapped his new black ops CD in two, and to be honest I hate black ops due to how it portrays stereotypical views on communism and I bet that the game is a total insult to all those who died in vietnam.

I still hate games that treat soldiers like tools, and the only people who are in to killing enemies rather than subduing them through non-lethal means:
"You enjoy all the killing, that's why!"-liquid snake.

...Doesn't seem like you learned much from Metal Gear, in fact, only to hate war and soldiers being treated like tools, and put the non-lethal heroes too high up. There is MUCH MORE to learn in Metal Gear rather than the poor lives of soldiers being the tools of war D: War is huge and important for many things in so many ways, and in some cases, a necessity...just not the best way to achieve peace and comfort.

Oh come on the only ones I ever killed in my metal gear games were the following:
The pain(suicide)
The fear(suicide)
The end(suicide)
The fury(suicide)
Ocelot(in all the games)
solidus
psycho mantis
sniper wolf
vulcan raven
liquid snake
the boss(in peace walker and MGS3)
I never killed grunts.
