I have the first one. If thats what you mean. Beat the game twice. First for story, second for free online gear. Got to lvl 50 Rebirth: 4 and GR9 fairly quick. After that the grind just seemed pointless. Maybe if I had more incentive than just better gear. Like more rebirths or something. Looking forward to the english release of 2.

I have another thread about this but yeah, I have it. I wish the different regions were compatible. I recommend the Japanese version of this though, as well as .hack and FFXIII. Cisna, Cubia, Lightning, and Aura are all voiced by the same amazing voiceactress. It sucks but jp wkc2 changed it so I can't use my US PSN account like I did with 1, I have to start over from the very beginning. All my friends are playing it though so I'll pick it up when I get back home in December...

I used/use axes and bows. My second to last rebirth I did all magic, which was fun, but it was easier to just do melee. And I'm lazy, so yeah.

Part 2 does have some dual wielding, not sure what. All I saw in the trailer was 1hnd swords.

May I venture to ask WHY? Kite was a twin blade, Haseo was a rogue with a twin blade weapon set, and Tokio uses two swords, which is like a twin blade.

I've had it for a while but after 2 hours of what may well have been the most trope heavy thing I've seen ever I got fed up with it and haven't touched it since. It probably does get better but why am I telegraphing what's going to happen point by point, what's the point in having random fantasy animals to pull wagons when there are perfectly good horses about and why did the game bother to have me make my own character if it's really only relevant for online mode as it just assigns me generic protagonist #8675309.

Again I by no means got far, at all so obviously what I'm saying should be taken lightly as I have no idea what occurs later. I just got really angry and quit, if this really is worth checking out further then point me to the best part of the game, spoilers or not I don't care.
Combat was okay but from what I did experience which was little it wasn't anything special.

Looking at it I really don't see what is the appeal of this game. It seems boring, predictable and poorly written, not to mention poorly dubbed. Overall there's nothing that remarkable about it apart from the novelty of giant mech-knights and nothing at all to recommend it. White Knight Chronicles looks like a typical JRPG that just isn't worth the money it costs to play it.

I'll be the first to agree it should never have shipped the way it was (without a working pause, among other things, in Japan--plus they pretty much admitted it was a half game by putting it in the sequel) and that the International Edition dub is horrible, but I think it's hardly predictable or boring. Some plot points are creative enough that they only barely even make any sense, like indistinguishably human cylons in BSG. Like .hack there's a pretty elaborate mediamix universe going on, although generally with more actual connections. But the real reason it's popular is probably the online play. The music is pretty good too.

To Gemcrim: because if you used horses you'd need to find a horse driver. And actually I kinda like the dual protagonist thing. You get all the immersion of making your own fully-customized character who appears in cutscenes and fights evil, but also a relevant main character with an actual story who isn't named "hey you." All RPGs pick one or the other or mix them half-assedly (e.g. you get to name the character and get all the dramatic brilliance of "hey you" without even being able to change their clothes) I'm not sure what you're asking for, if you want cutscenes I'm sure Youtube has them. I would imagine none of the better scenes of the game make sense without context though.

Anyway it's a half game. Not going to argue against that, but I am going to play the new one...

It's like .hack in that it's a massive story told over multiple media. No one perspective is the whole thing and they all interconnect. It's apparently ending soon, but so far there's already two PS3 games, a manga series, and a PSP game.

The gameplay is really only similar inasmuch as it's a realtime rpg with magic and elements. It's more like FFXII but with a flat, customizable menu solving the realtime problem rather than gambits. Actually, that aspect of the design shares some ideas with G.U., I guess...
