The changes for the older gruffer protagonist was to cater to western audiences. The younger animu looking protagonist is for the Japanese audience. Nier Replicant will have Japanese voices, while Nier Gestalt or Nier will have English voices with Japanese subtitles. In the US, Gestalt will be released for both 360 and PS3, and Replicant will not be released in the US at all.

This game looks good and all but i hate how they try to cater to western civilizations tastes in characters. I personally would prefer to play as the younger anime protagonist, so i really hate it when companies assume that all us western people prefer bi ruff-and-tuff characters to play as. The game does look great, don't get me wrong, its just that o get ticked off when companies pull this kind of ****.

I prefer the younger anime protagonist too. Importing looks really attractive right about now.

Despite its visual appeal, I'm really skeptical about this game. Lately Japan has been churning out some pretty shitty RPGs that aren't worth even the bargain bin price. If this turns out to be like the numerous other IPs that just rehash the same hackneyed gameplay mechanics of older, more successful games, then I'll pass. I'll have to see the reviews before I decide whether or not I'm going to like this.
