Anyone have opinions on this anime/manga? I've only watched the Japanese version of the anime, but after watching that I feel the sudden urge to watch the dub and read the manga as well...

All three mangas are awesome, I personally find the anime to be a good representation of the first manga serial. As I put it, Captain Planet on crack, at least the first one.

Captain Planet on WIN is more like it.
I heard on Youtube (yeah I know I shouldn't trust their opinions but I was gullible) that the anime was better than the manga because the manga cut off prematurely (at least in the first series). That's why I watched the anime first, but now I'm interested in the manga as well. XD

youtube is evil. An evil I stare at a lot. x_X. But they are correct in saying the the serialization was cut of on Shounen Sunday (or was it Magazine? I don't quite remember correctly), and that the second series begins with a entirely different premise. But all those things aside, give it a shot, if you enjoyed the anime, the manga will be right up your ally.
And yes, it is Captain Planet on WIN

XD Thanks, I was curious about that ever since seeing that. Someone wouldn't say the anime was better than the manga in a series that was originally a manga without good reason.

True that. But no problem, I really enjoyed this series so I'm happy to pass along the knowledge.

Yeah. My friends said it's "boring" and "generic", but IMO while it might be generic it's definitely not boring. Plus, you have a Gintama icon, and they love Gintama, so touche.

I don't think that Ueki is especially "generic", but it is definetely shounen, and shounen tends to be rather run-of-the-mill if that's all that one watches. I believe it to be an interesting premise. Gintama is a satire show, so it has a completely different feel. But both are awesome in my opinion.

Yeah, that's true.
Well, I only mentioned Gintama as pointing out that your tastes might be similar to theirs. I know it's totally different from Law of Ueki.

No problem. Well, my tastes are incredibly broad, and I can find entertainment in almost any show I watch, as long as it has something at least resembling intelligence.

I'd have to agree, which is probably why I became disinterested in "Shuffle!"...

Shuffle!... You mean that series based off a doujin game? Not saying that every anime series that was based off one is BAD per say, but that one, just... didn't translate very well from it's original material. This is where that concept of people saying that the manga wasn't as good as the anime. Which in Ueki's sake, I think that isn't necessarily true, but it did finish off the plot.

I'm not sure what Shuffle! is based off of, but it's a harem anime that seems to focus around sex appeal...

Yeah, it's based off an adult doujin game. So basically, you have the premise and scenario of pornographic material, without the pornographic material.

*nod* Now I can see why I don't like it anymore... XD

Easy. Series that also follow this premise include Fate/Stay Night, but at least that one is pretty and has fighting in it. In fact, unless you're really paying attention it's hard to tell that is was actually based on a doujin game. But once again, I'm getting off topic.

That's pretty much what I thought about Fate/Stay Night. It definitely looks pretty good, and after you telling me what it's based off of, I think it's better than Shuffle.
Yeah, tendency to derail topics is bad... XD Let's get back on topic, then?

I know, I do it more often then I should, which is why I need an OOC thread for everything, even normal topics -_-

I'm almost as bad. XD
So... back on the subject of Law of Ueki, what did you think of the characters?

And here's where things get sticky. Mainly because even though the characters were cool, it was the powers that stood out. I always say that Ueki is Hitsugaya mainly based on the fact that the share the same seiyuu and have the same freakin' haircut. But Kobayashi and Robert.
