2009: Year of the Robot

I'd like to address something I find to be totally cool. The fact that this year, we've seen the release of quite a few new robot shows, as well as some classic remakes/sequel-type shows. I want to say that this is an amazing development, especially since the genre needed a jump in it's otherwise dying batteries. I know that this still won't catch on in a massive scale here in America, but I do want to say that 2009 is; The Year of the Robot.

True. Robots have been popping up alot this year. But I have to say 2009 is, for the fictional/entertainment world, the year of Vampires.
But what shows have been remade/created? I only seen a feel not so well known.

I'm still in the process of making my Doomsday Spider Zeppelin. You're gonna have to wait a bit for true robotic amazement.

Vaguely on topic, what is everyone's favorite robot? Mine is unapologetically Getter 2. It's fast as hell, piloted by a psychopath, and has a motherf**king drill for a hand. This may or may not be true factually, but I know in my heart of hearts all speed and drill robots are direct descendants of this one. If Go Nagai, in the throes of senility, created a show about just Getter 2, I'd probably move to Japan.

I've got to go with... let me think.
GaoFighGar.
There's no way you can't love a robot built from extinct alien technology based on a magical space lion and a green pixie kid and refined into a combination of various earth vehicles and one half-dead astronaut with evolual ul-tech power.

Good choice! It was also the first Super-level Mechanoid created entirely by humans, though Evoluder abilities and the Final Fusion Program Rings were both one-of-a-kind. It might be based on Cain's designs, but at long last humanity has made them their own. This lends to a sleeker, more mecha-y look than the other -Gars. Of all of Guy's robots, it's probably my favorite too. I gots the gold one by my TV. But, I wonder where it got those sweet drills from.

Does this count?
If not then...

If you want to be technical, the first appearance of any Drill-Weapon in a Robot Series was in Mazinger Z. The Mechanical Beast Zaila Danchel in Episode Six. A Go Nagai work, of course, as he is the father of Drill-Weapons. It is safe to say that his inspiration for the Getter Two came from a number of his Mechanical Beasts, as I recall the Holzon V3 could tunnel through the ground with its Drill-Weapon, much like Getter Two. So, clearly GaoFighGar, and all of the -Gar series of robots got their drill inspirational from the great Go Nagai. Though I might be wrong... the only robot show before Mazinger Z I can think might have Drill-Weapons would be Tetsujin 28, alas, it is one of the few I have never actually seen in Japanese.
And no... A cardboard box maid doesn't count. But Honda Tadakatsu is a super-fighting robot if I've ever seen one!

Anyway, drills aside. I'm going to say my favorite all-time robot, although I am considered more on the real-robot side of the SRW fence, would have to be the Garmraid/Garmraid Blaze. Some of the most brutal attacks out there, and some crazy upgrades. Gotta love it.
But for animated productions, I'll say the Sizzler.

My favorite robot eh?... That's a tough choice. I'm rather partial to Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma, but I also want a Megadeus from Big O... Scratch that, I want Dorothy from Big O! (yes, i realize that technically she's an android)

On that note, crap, why did you even mention Tetsujin? That got me thinking about Giant Robo, which got me thinking about pre-Getter tokusatsu, and now my delusion is splitting at the seams! I think I'm going to cry. I'm going to have to delude myself a lot harder now, thanks a lot...

Duude, the Sizzler is awesome. I loved those guys. They're not actually animated that much, though, except in the special feature... Gunbuster itself is probably in my top three, though Nono gives it a run for its money.

I guess I asked a more general question than I realized. I may have to re-evaluate my answer on account of Arale...
EDIT: I was just wrong about everything the other day. I realized that GaoFighGar actually still uses the G-Stone, so it's not entirely of Earthly origin. I was always hoping humanity would develop some sort of blue E-Gem or E-Rock, though...

Well, technically it HAS TO use the G-Stone...
I mean, after guy became a living mass of G-Stone energy, I doubt we could have made a compatible power-source.

True, though GaoGaiGo uses GS-Ride and Kaidou, so I dunno...

GaoGaiGo can't exist...
It would be TOO POWERFUL.

Not to mention it has the Betterman Army backing it up. They really need to make this show, I have to see what they'd fight against...

As much as I'd love to see GaoGaiGo, I'd actually really want to see Gaan Baan.

Uh, I think you have the name backwards... I prefer the Yonetaniverse, though, which I guess is kinda a separate metaseries intersecting the Brave one. It's for kids, it's for adults, it's for philosophy graduate students, it has something for everyone! It has the best opening sequence in all of anime (GaoGaiGar), and the worst opening sequence in all of anime (Betterman). And yet somehow it all fits together really well...

What robot anime came out? I haven't seen that many. As for my favorite robot...
In 3rd place is, Jehudy from Zone of the enders, Its just so epic and I love ADA. In 2nd place is Power Tool Dragon from Yugioh 5D, Come on! Its got a freaking dozer shovle for a hand. (and a shovle on his tail XD). Last in 1st place is Optimus prime, He shall forever remain there.

Non-piloted robots aside, I'd say that the Dancougar also comes up in my all-time favorites list, along with the Gespenst RV and the Crossbone X3.
