Do you think Windows 7 will be good, or will it be a crap like Vista? I still prefer XP over Vista. The only reason why I have one now is because my XP has broke down last year in October. The s*** Vista does is so unbelievable. I can still get things on it done, but I have so many problems with it. In some areas like Internet security I'm not as likely to get malware and and it does run faster because there more space. Yet still I will take XP over Vista any day. Windows 7 looks like it will be good. Its has touchscreen capabilities, and from what I'm hearing its better in many ways.

I haven't test vista on my pc, but I only hear bad things about vista that make me keep with my XP.

We have to wait to see taht new Windows.

funnily enough (you may flame me for this, but I couldn't care less), In my experience, Vista is actually better than XP. XP was bug ass slow, froze every time I tried using two windows, got spammed by viruses, which caused the virus-scan to lower its performance even FURTHER.. sure windows vista has bad points, but those will alll vanish with time. I seem to remember that XP had the same problems when it came out, because no-one knew how to work it. also, the recent SP1 upgrade has made it completely uber compared to XP. It now out performs XP EASILY D:. So there you have it. vista > XP. Go ahead and flame all you want, it doesn't change anything.

But he does have a point when he says XP used to suck until it got its upgrades, which vista has, is, and will be getting.

And I as well, love having multiple windows open.

I use XP commonly for a long time already and it doesn't freezes even with like 6-8 windows opened, my anti-virus is very light and it doesn't uses up alot of memory at the same time it blocks viruses very well (i hardly have problems related to it), and it's very fast even with all the programs i need to use, compilers mostly :P I have to admit though, i had to "tweak" around it and expand memory and all to make it as good and useable as a Vista, since my bro uses Vista and he can do all the same things but without having to upgrade anything like i did XD Vista doesn't suck, though it does have it's evil failures and the HUGE protection sometimes makes me think that i have to pass through 3 metal detectors and a drug test just to go to the bathroom...it's ridiculous sometimes and not as safe as they make it look XP

Anyways, my thoughts on Windows 7: ...None really, i haven't paid much attention to it and haven't read anything about it yet, but i hope it brings alot of changes from XP and Vista (in new features to use and alot more of customizable options), and can stand up well against Ubuntu and Mac OS X.

XP freezing with multiple windows open means you've managed to mess up system somehow, not that the OS itself is bad.
You're just not taking good enough care of it apparently.

I constantly have at least 13 different windows open and countless more background apps running with no problems. It's all about how treat it ^^

point taken. also, It depends on the computer you're using. ancient laptops, for example, make XP run slower than it would on a powerful computer. but, IMO, I still think Visa is faster.. and I never experience any problems with it at all :O

I know little about the next windows since my current computer is only just over a year and a few months old. I do know that I've had no issues with Vista at all since it came with it pre-installed on it. So I can't say the new version will be like crap since Vista, for me, hasn't been well... like crap. lol

I have both actually. I have XP on my older laptop and Vista on my newer desktop. Both work just fine and Ironically I actually prefer Vista though I still like XP as well since I've had no issues with either one.

I'm curious as to what crap or rather s*** it does that is unbelievable. Not that I'm saying it's perfect, no operating system is, but I am curious what issues you have with it. =P

I got this computer last year in November. So far I had a few problems that got really annoying with Vista, and I had to keep changing stuff just to get it to work well for me. I reformat this thing because of file and register errors, problems with updates for security, it running slow with no malware, or many process running in the background, and so on. I finally got a way were I can work with it. I can use Vista, but I will still take XP over it. Go to Youtube, and look up videos like XP vs Vista. Mostly everyone is saying XP is better. When I got a Vista myself I see what people are meaning from my own point of view. If I put XP this computer, and compare the speed with the same amount of Ram, and other stuff in most area XP would run faster.

You still gave me nothing tangible other than generalizations or rather file and register errors. I was looking for something a bit more specific than that. Youtube isn't a testimonial that one is better, it's individual people saying they don't like it. Personal rants don't really interest me.

There's part of your problem right there. Expecting it to behave exactly like XP on the same amount of memory when it's not XP. Let's put it into perspective here.

Windows 95

Of course XP is going to run faster since it's not the same system and doesn't need as much basic memory. When XP came out, everyone was bitching about how it was a memory hog compared to previous systems. And when you look at those requirements, that's the absolute bare minimum that one can get by with. So clearly you need more than just that since that's usually for the operating system alone and doesn't include what you need to run other stuff as well.

Don't get me wrong here, if you don't like it that's not the issue, but if you're going to claim it's crap, your comparisons need to be grounded in reality instead of a comparison that makes no sense at all. Oh and you do know that you can turn some of those Vista areo graphic effects off (and reduce your memory requirements) right?

There are a lot of things you can do to customize it to suit your needs. That being said, I won't argue that each system has had it's issues. But then that seems to be pretty standard for Windows. =P

I actually have a MacBook and a Dell desktop with XP on it, and I can say I like Mac much better, but my mother has a laptop with Vista on it, and it kept freezing, so I like XP better. But I just got a virus on it and I had to reboot my whole computer, and now I can't use the internet on that because I can't reinstall my wireless adapter, making my AirPort installed Macbook look even better.

Uh, Vista takes 1GB of memory to run in the background, doing nothing! For example, right at this very moment with only internet explorer with three tabs open, Vista is using 1.06GB of my system memory, leaving me less than 1GB to do what I please. I don't know where you got those numbers from, but I know for a fact that Microsoft wants windows 7 to use less than 1GB to run in the background.

WTF is the BS. I just started my computer clean. I had to download all of the updates for protection again. While they are being downloaded I am downloading Zone Alarm, but its says it incompatible. WTF, Zone Alarm has work with me before, but now its just BSing around. I am was stuck in between its not compatible with your drivers to looking for solutions online. I can't count the times I had to reformat Vista compare to XP. For 5 years I had to reformat XP once. I had a few problems from time to time with XP. With Vista it does so much crap like after a day I got it I wanted to download FireFox 3 because its is more secure, and a little better than IE7 in a few ways. When I tried to use it for the first time it says Chrome Registration error WTF. Do I really have to go on about the S*** Vista has done?

I have MAC OS X, and I vastly prefer XP or Vista over it. Windows has tons of things you can do it on that you can't do on a mac, and most software supports Windows without supporting Macs.

I just feel that way for what I use it for. I'm a student, so the computer for me is school projects and fun. Macs are less laggy, so it's not too bad. I know that Windows can support much more things than Macs can, but I don't need that stuff at the moment, so my MacBook is my current favorite computer.

For those idiots that thought XP had problems, well, you're idiots!

It crashes because you already have a virus, probably because you're using some P.O.S. pre-built comp, or have one of the follow programs that actually ATTRACT viruses!: Norton, McAfee, AIM, AOL, Internet Explore (stop using it), Starcraft: BW (sadly there's malware in every update I've gotten), and many others.

My suggested fix for all that!?
Use Avira anti virus, it has daily updates and it's detected every virus that has tried to sneak its way onto my computer, FREE.
Use Spybot: Seek & Destroy, kills Malware and spyware, FREE.
Use Mozilla Firefox, it less likely to get a virus as long (as you're not "add-on crazy"), FREE.

Always have at least 1GB of RAM, Vista takes 512MB RAM to run anyway, and XP takes only around 128MB to run. And in order to use multiple windows you have to have the RAM and CPU left over to run them, its not the operating system's fault, its yours for not having adequate hardware.



The main reason I hate vista is how they have it organized, I've got nothing against the system itself, just the way they have you getting through folders. As a man who constantly uses subfolders upon subfolders to organize, its just not nice. Not a fan of them turning the RUN option into a search bar either, that just confused the crap outta me the first time I tried to use dxdiag and cmd on vista.
