English vs. Japanese

Post by ///AKUJIKI-E1N54MK317 »

Common discussion that I normally see about things is the sub versus dub aspects. So how many of you played it in english? Japanese? Any reason?

I played it in Japanese. For .hack//sign, I say it just sounded better, and just fits the mood. Same with the other anime series from the .hack project. The game just sounds better in Japanese, and it doesn't make Kite sound like a 6 year old 8) . Don't get me wrong, the English still sounds great, I just prefer the Japanese.

Well..I ended up watching Sign in English first to understand what was happening. Sometimes reading subtitles you miss important information..then I watch everything in Japanese.

Since it's my first time through, I'm playing it through in English. I think that most of the dubs are good. There are a few I strongly dislike (Piros and Marlo come to mind). I do occasionally switch it to the Japanese voice-over just to hear it. I plan on playing through the whole game (er.. games. Basically, after I get //QUARANTINE) with the Japanese voice-overs.

As for //SIGN, I actually like the dub a little more

I played the game all in Japanese, but when I am running around doing item/core runs, I switch it over to English. I also watch the movies in English once I beat the game, so I do hear em both.

The "Meeeeeeow" is probably more amusing in English however. LOL .

they skipped out on a lot of information in the SIGN dub. I played the games with the jap. voiceover the entire time, half of the english voices are just horrible (plus a seiyuu I like did Natsume and Aura in the jap. :D)

Personally I stick with the subs as well.I even first watched .hack//SIGN with the fan subs,I compared them to the dubs from CN.And they are Fair.. I still think the original Tsukasa's seiyuu did a good job, everybody was so-so.Same with the .hack games..I leave it on the subs, the voices for the dumb..just..dont exactly fit well. Some do and some dont, its only fair to me.The japanese one I enjoy a whole lot,it seems they put more into it,besides the dubs where they just "Read the lines".Course everyone knows by now, that with the Japanese, especially seiyuus who have done this and over from previous games/animes...they are already use to it exagerrating, shouting, going crazy, acting surprised, etc.

And Orange..that seiyuu is:

Sakamoto Maaya
Right?

I usually play with the Japanese voiceovers. Sometimes I'll switch over for certain characters (like Helba, since I think she sounds better in English). The English voice track isn't too bad as far as games go, but I prefer the Japanese one. I haven't seen enough of .hack//Sign in Japanese to judge which I prefer. I've only seen most of it in English.

the SIGN dub itself is not that bad, but they left out a lot of information and such, so you can't really learn as much about the world of .hack if you watch the dub.

The information left out in the dub is in the subtitles, right? Otherwise, I would never know what was left out...

yeah probably. I haven't bought the dvd's yet because I'm waiting for them to release an uber-cool boxset with a ton of extra's. I have seen a few eps on CN though, as well as the entire series on fansub, and they left out information. of course, they had to "dumb it down" for the typical american audience :?

*Sigh* You are right about Americans in the fact that they favor idiotic storylines...I cant believe how much horrible reality shows there are in america. I crave shows like .hack//sign because of its complex themes. I'll personally watch it either way! :)

Yeah, you are definatly right about that american TV stuff. The nice thing about satilite is I get to watch foreign channels every once in awhile. While Japanese TV can be wierd, they have some great stuff on there. And its not pointless!

I have a feeling I am going to need the uber-cool box set dispite my current collection, LOL. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Most of American TV is pointless... but there are some good shows. I don't watch very much TV, though (I try to avoid stupid shows, lol).

Where is there information about the box-set you guys are talking about? Is there or are you just assuming they're going to have one?

That and they come with TONS of extras which normally make you think twice about why you bought the stuff first. I'm waiting for the Matrix to do that, but I cant wait for .hack. Maybe ill give my current set as a gift to someone... nah, I like my platnum edition.

Well I'm the only one, but I chose English. No special reason really I just play the games and watch the anime in English it's just what I prefer. I'm not really all that picky about these kinds of things! :)

Plus I really like the Voice actor that does Tsukasa and Elk. I also like Kite's voice as well.
