Thinking of Getting a PS3

Yeah.. THere's a few games out and a few games in the making I'm looking forward to for the PS3 and am thinking of buying one for them. Could some of you give me pros and cons of getting one? ..Thank you.

My uncle, cousin, and friends have one. I witnessed one of theirs go crappy and freeze. It scared me enough.

Now my dad's thinking of getting one. -__- I'd only approve if more games come out and that we get Devil May Cry 4 and Tekken 6, along with BL games. ;D

Pros?

• Definitely the best valued entertainment system on the market. If it weren't a blu-ray player, it wouldn't be nearly as attractive as it is now. $400 - $500 for a blu-ray player and most future-proof console is, in reality, a steal.

• It's a stylish, reliable, well-built system, with a crazy low failure rate, when compared against the 360. This is surprising for a Sony console. In addition, it is about 50x more quiet than the horrendously loud 360.

• If you have a PSP, the remote play feature is really, really awesome. You don't have to install a custom firmware, which voids the warranty, on the PSP to play PSX games, and it's all wireless. It's a really great feature, and I've been using my PS3 more for PS1 games than PS3 games.

• It's got a very promising upcoming line-up of games. For exclusives, on the top of my list are MGS4, FFXII and Versus XII, Gran Turismo 5, White Knight Story, Valkyria Chronicles, and Little Big World

• The PS3's HDD is INTERCHANGEABLE. I don't understand why the same isn't true with the 360. You could hook up a 500GB HDD to your PS3, if you really wanted. Also, the PS3 is much more customizable (e.g. you can install a different operating system), which is a huge pro for tech gurus.

Cons?

• While it does have many upcoming titles that show promise, its current library is flat-out underwhelming. Aside from Ratchet and Clank, which I find to be too easy, Folklore, and Uncharted, the console as an extreme dearth of Sony-exclusive content. Also, many of its multi-platform titles play better on the 360 (Orange Box, Rainbow Six: Vegas), though the same could be said for a few 360 games; however, it's Sony that needs all the games it can get. The 360 has a much more impressive library, even though it had a year head-start, especially for RPGamers, and also has a great upcoming line-up. However, the PS3's library isn't even close to being as awful as the Wii's, which sports nearly every terrible game ever made this generation.

• The PS3's online multiplayer service, or lack thereof, is nowhere need Xbox Live quality; however, Home comes out soon, and this could change. If anything, it's not as bad, which isn't saying much, as the Wii's abysmal friend code monstrosity.

• Sony's online store is freaking awful, unintuitive, and isn't updated nearly enough. Also, out of all three next-gen systems, which I own, Sony's online content boasts the slowest download speeds.

• If you're a fan of the more niche RPG titles, a lot of companies are jumping on the 360 bandwagon. Even Atlus USA, which published maybe 1 Xbox game, now has a contract with Microsoft in the US. The newest tales game is also a 360 exclusive. Other JRPG developers have upcoming 360 exclusives (SqEnix, Mistwalker, etc.) The PS3 probably won't be the RPG system this generation, as it was the last, since the 360 already has more JRPG's than the Xbox ever had.

Final verdict? DO NOT buy a PS3 yet! If you want backwards compatibility, wait for the MGS4 80GB edition in June. The Motorstorm 80GB model is no longer being produced, so if you buy one now, you'll be losing PS2 backwards compatibility (not PS1). Also, the new Dualshock is finally coming in April, so no more rumbleless Sixaxis controllers. They will be packaged with the MGS4 version in June. In my opinion, you should definitely buy one; it's a great system that boasts a ton of future possibilities. HOWEVER, wait until June to buy one, if you want the best value. Hope that provided some balanced insight. :]

wait what? I bought the 60gig it plays PS2, 80gig i heard cant play backwards. and whats the point of 80gigs?

and Shino, their PS3's prob failed because they didn't store it in a proper place...

60gb uses hardware emulation, as opposed to the 80gb's software emulation. The 60gb's is better, as some PS2 games might glitch on the 80gb's software emulator. Otherwise, the 20, 60, and 80 models all are backwards compatible; however, they're all not being produced anymore. The new 80gb comes in June with MGS4.

Also, you could wait for the Metal Gear Solid 4 pakcage that comes out in June.

Well, there are still games made for the PS2; I'm actually waiting for a while, I don't have the money to buy one at the moment but I'm saving and still I'd rather wait, even if I'm interested in a few games. And maybe one day we'll get a slim version of the PS3, I just think it's kinda big and I don't have that much space right now >.>;;

im getting a 360 ASAP, ive been playing Halo at my friends house, and the online is kick ass. so, im getting a 360 and im gonna play online with my friends. i ocassionally play smash on wi-fi, but wi-fi is terrible

Anyway, there are some pretty good games from PS3 out already, although some have glitches *cough*Assasin's Creed*cough* but either way they have been fixed or will be fixed (I suppose).

i say i had one because my dad pawned it and then my parents got a divorce. anyway since were now in seperate states, knowing my dad he probably does have it. im not saying i hate sony, ive been a fan for many years. yes i like nintendo and microsoft. BUT if i were to have the money for a PS3 and it wouldnt put me into a financial hole, then i would. but for now i would buy a 360, mainly for the online play, plus all my friends have a 360 and i like playing halo and COD4 with them. and as for the MGS4 release. uh whoa i didnt know that, i kinda stopped receiving gameinformer. and what the hell does nintendo have to do with anime?

pros,free internet,uncharted, easy profile management hook up same stuff for the 360(i think) like the headset,hook up psp to the ps3 to play psp games on tv.

not pros,360 has some games ps3 doesnt ie halo3 (duh) no achievements thats about it I dont regret getting mine
