does anyone miss olden style gameplay. there were games in the past that had very uniqe designs. for example:
saga frontier : seven main characters, seven final bosses, seven endings.
dragon quest V (also some other games) : you get to choose one of two girls too mary, and depending on wich one you choose you allies and your family are different.
final fantasy legends I & final fantasy : choose the race/class of you allies who stick with you troughout the entier game. that adds replay value.
legend of mana : 3 main storys. you only need too complete one and then beat the game final boss. if you want to however you could do all three and then fight the final boss.
I know that some games nowadays do have some of these kinds of ideas, but it's still something that i miss from the old days. did anyone else like the designs of those kind of games.

Wasn't final fantasy Legend 1 an old Gameboy game?
I did enjoy legend of mana for the ps1. Shame I don't own that anymore

, I remember using the name's they gave you. *sigh* my girl was always named Talamand (SP?). Good times.
I see what you mean, but sure those games were addicting but it's hard to hold a players attention these days without a throughly done story. It's hard to do a story with characters you can create etc. FFIII for example re-made for the DS. Good game, addicting. Story... not so good.
They're still out there, just gotta know where to look.

yeah, I understand what your saying. however I'm probably the only person on earth who balives this but, when a game dosn't have tones of cutscenes and plot twists, i find that the replay value is much higher. personally. the reason it's this way for me is becuse when I get addicted to a game becuse of story i don't like redoing the game becuse i have a hard time coping with the characters when i know whats comming. all the arguing or meaninful conversation just becumes a burden after you know what happening.
this is also another reason i almost never re-wach animes or movies. i like my entertainment as if the whole thing were just a filler.
and yes final fantasy I is the gameboy one.

Even I love the old school games. Every so once in a while I like the play the Old Mario Bor's, and Mega Man games. Not to mention Metroid. I was so adicted to Metroid 2 that my lowest time was 40 min. And that was still collecting all the missile, energy pods and suite upgrades.

what i'm trying to say is: it seems to me that games nowadays are sacrificing gameplay for eye candy and motionpicture style storys. I miss alot of old games where what you did was more in your hand. for example having seven different main characters to choose from or something like having three different endings. and i'm not talking about three different endings were you choose wether to fight the final boss or not. I'm talking about three completly different final dungions and bosses. like sekien densetsu three.
this is what I'M really asking. does anyone miss the costumization of the past?

Indeed, I miss being able to take a video game to it's limits with their single d-pads and less than 6 buttons and a controller that isn't crafted to fit in your hands... good times. These days, it's all about having as many options as possible, so the game has to deal with OUR shortcomings. I miss it when it was us that had to deal with the GAME's shortcomings. It was more fun that way.

Yeah I hear you. There needs more true RPG's out there. Where you can create your own character and choose what route you want to take. Good or evil. Kinda like Fable the Lost Chapters. There you can really choose how you want to play the game. Your not stuck to some preset story like most other RPG's are.

Mortal Kombat (I liked it for some reason, even though it was very violent...)
Super Mario World (Yoshi!)
Sonic the Hedgehog (me and my cousins would play it upstairs on the Sega Genesis. It was so fun and a great way to spend time with family.)
Kirby (It was addicting...)
Romancing Saga (**** always occurred while I was playing for some reason...)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (Addicting, and I kept on replaying.)
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (my favorite Zelda game)
Dragon Quest I (I hated looking all over for stuff on the floor.)
Dragon Quest II (Wasn't as good as the first, but I still went on to play it.)
Pac-Man (Now I wonder why Pac-Man didn't die of obesity.)
Bah, these games aren't too old. Are they?
