Rubik's Cubes, yo.

Ahmg. These are the latest fad at school with most of one of the popular people cliques.

So naturally, I decided to dig one out. Took two weeks and I learned the beginner algorithms and can cube in about 3 minutes on average. Nothing near those crazy under 30 seconds cubers. x_x I'm still just trying to learn to find patterns faster so it all flows smoother.

Anyone else cube? If so, what's your best time and what's your method? And what do you use to lube your cube?

For everyone else... yeah, I used to peel the stickers off and rearrange them when I was like, 7, but I've never pulled one apart.

xD I've never been able to solve one. Well then again, I never really tried. I just tok one look at it and gave up xP

My friend's pretty good though. I forgot what her record was.

i never solved one...and my IQ is suppose to be good...and my not so smart friend(sowwy kathy!!!I still love you!!!)solved it before 6th hour...and i ended up giving her my DMC3 as a bet...

Solving a Rubix Cube really has nothing to do with intelligence. There's a trick to it and once you solve that and figure out the system, it becomes trivial. If you check out the Google results for "Rubix Cube," you'll notice a lot of people have posted their systems to beating it.

lol well maybe it was luck not saying your friend is dumb or anything...I just thought two heads ahead when I did it...but I'm not sure if I'm smart or not

I've never fully solved one, but I once got close enough on one to prove that that particular cube was unsolvable without sticker peeling. I have deliberately avoided looking up anyone's system - if I ever solve one, I want to figure out the tricks myself.

Honestly, the whole thing about Rubik's Cubes is moot since it's become somewhat of a competition and with a bunch of formulas/algorithms to solve it for you. I assume that people were supposed to figure out how to solve it on their own, but that's kinda gone now that anyone can just go look up a specific algorithm to move the pieces around. Which is pretty much what Shinsou believes. But uh, good luck to ya. x_x Sorry, but it would take me years to figure out certain patterns but I'd probably lose interest by then.

Ah well. Helps me solve it that much faster. xD

I suppose you could call it a trick, but really it's all just formulas and patterns. Learn what moves move which pieces, and you're set.

This is the site I used for learning a few of the crucial algorithms: http://peter.stillhq.com/jasmine/rubiks ... ution.html

It might help other beginners as well if you really wanna learn.

@Maromi: Haha, I know, right? That's how fads roll I guess. Personally, I think that movie The Pursuit of Happiness had something to do with it. Hah.

Whenever I try those it always ends up being thrown half across the room and me yelling "ILL KILL YOU!!!!!!!" :o

What's a Rubik's Cube? I didn't plan on asking, but once I saw the word "algorithm," I had to ask.

--Never mind, Google Images helped me out there.

So you're just...twisting the blocks around until you get a certain pattern?

All the squares on each side have to match.

"cube"
"cubers"
people are trying to make this sound "hip" now? O_o

i've only tried to get as far as 1 or 2 sides and then given up :D
not seen one in years and years though lol

What country are you from? Not making fun, I'm just wondering. I assumed Cubes were pretty common knowledge.

Yeah, the object is to get a scrambled one to where all sides have only one color each by rotating each side/top/bottom/front/back.

Heh, those terms have been around for a while...

Yeah man. Cubes are hawt. There's even a Facebook group called "Chicks dig Rubik's Cubes". xD

A couple of my friends are major cubers, my friend Luke does it in bead over nd over until he falls asleep, he greased his cube with PAM, (Hell, he was telling about this one time he did it in the shower....) So I take pride in being their "offical rubix cube messer-upper" I screw the cube up and I hold the watch...My friends times are between 42seconds and 5minutes.
But my friend Luke who is completely obsessed has started to try Square 1 which is similar to a rubix cube just like 10 times harder.

i can solve one in about 4-5 minutes
