I'm finishing Uni this fall - got an internship this summer at KPMG and need to start looking into Masters programs for 2017 admission. To get my professional designation and license I need to pass some CPA exams (will study while doing masters) and I need 30 months of full time work experience... ugh finding a job fresh out of school will be a nightmare. Fun summer ahead..

Re: Random facts about YOU!
good luck. I still haven't found anything since graduating. (other than crap jobs high schoolers get) Tho, I only have bachelors. It hurts not already having that actually work experience in the field applying for, even tho its an entry job that shouldn't require any but doesVallen wrote:ugh finding a job fresh out of school will be a nightmare.

Yeah man, too much competition. So many people going through Uni these days, and all need work experience. As such, employers are picky. I think the best option is to network and have a friend hook you up with that first job - afterwards it gets easier. I hope lol..Avatar_Crim wrote:good luck. So you're telling me you need to work to gain experience so you can get work?Vallen wrote:Yeah man, too much competition. So many people going through Uni these days, and all need work experience. Over here, its all about connections, I got lucky being hired as a chef at a hotel before, but even then they replaced me with somebody else later on, and I know many independent lawyers who's offices double as chump change side jobs like shoe-shining and photocopying services.

My girlfriend's dad has been a university professor for nearly three decades, and told me once that "These days an undergraduate degree is like a high school diploma in my day: useless for starting a career."Vallen wrote:Yeah man, too much competition. Post-graduate schooling is a must if you want to have a lifelong career as opposed to a job. Looks like I gotta hit the books
Re: Random facts about YOU!
Yeah, that's exactly right. Unless you're starting your own business, otherwise a bachelors degree is worth **** lol. My prof encourages to not work in the corporate world - he says don't help others live their dreams. It's true, being an employee you'll never make good money. The middle class is also taxed the heaviest in Canada where we are.Falions wrote:My girlfriend's dad has been a university professor for nearly three decades, and told me once that "These days an undergraduate degree is like a high school diploma in my day: useless for starting a career."

So I think I'll definitely try to start my own thing... but I'll be planning that as I'm doing my MA haha. Gotta cover my ass in case I fail LOL
Re: Random facts about YOU!
Pretty much. Hence why it's a nightmare for fresh graduates. And even if they find work, they get abused. In my field, accounting and finance, you get paid well once you're licensed. But while you're in the process of getting that license, you get paid pennies, they try to extract everything out of you while you're a "nobody". I know horror stories from my colleagues, accountants working for KPMG got paid slightly more than the minimum wage for the first 3 years before they got their CPAs. Think about that, a graduate student in accounting gets paid barely more than a Walmart cashier.Kaori wrote:So you're telling me you need to work to gain experience so you can get work?

At the very least our Canadian school system isn't as awful as America's! You and me, my Canadian friend, we'll go far. Let's become millionaires and then give it all to CC2 and Bamco to get a PS4 .hack, huh?Vallen wrote:Yeah, that's exactly right. Over here, I have a cousin who got his start in accounting for our family business, we didn't pay him much compared to a CPA, but we did give him free food if he felt hungry, and he used his experience for us to become a CPA in the end, why not try accounting for people you know? Especially if they're family who own their own business?Vallen wrote:Pretty much. Hence why it's a nightmare for fresh graduates. And even if they find work, they get abused. @Kaori: That's the plan!
I decided to go watch that Psycho Pass movie in the theater today. I like the series, and although I already saw it online, I decided it's worth seeing it in dub and on the big screen. Also, I love watching anime in the movie theaters, so I do my best to support all anime movies that make it to the big screen.
The movie was much more enjoyable in dub, this series works better in English. Also the high quality of the movie really shows on the big screen by comparison to crappy pirate rips with fan subs found online.
Fun film, though VERY violent. Haven't seen that many guts on screen in a while.

You know whats funny and sad. I've gone to my family and reached out for jobs within their companies regardless of type of work or field its in, and I would be willing to train for whatever, and every time I was told "We don't have anything for your field of expertise". So much for family lol.Kaori wrote:why not try accounting for people you know? Especially if they're family who own their own business?

Re: Random facts about YOU!
That's kinda sad really, although I don't get special treatment whenever I'm doing my on-the-job-training at the tourism department of my town despite the mayor being one of my dad's fill-ins, and I highly doubt if my brother wins I'll get any special treatment either, which is fine by me, I tend to handle minor preparations for the town festival and it just involves taking down illegal stalls and making sure that travelling vendors don't hang their brown colored laundry on public and private property.Avatar_Crim wrote:You know whats funny and sad. Can't wait to see he last episode of Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. Also going to upload the summaries later this week.
Also finales for Dimension W, Durarara, and Phantasy Star 2 Online the animation soon.
When I get the money I plan to buy a Xbox One controller for PC. Won't by the Microsoft One however. Thinking of the Hori controller.
