I don't care what excuses they come up with, fillers happen in the story, in the same world, with the characters, and like it or not, there are still developments in the story with them.
Those developments are just really irrelevant in both of these shows. That's why these fillers suck.
They are part of the story. And believe it or not, both of these shows are going to die someday. Don't sit here and feel like you have to make excuses and 'defend' it. No one's thoughts will change what they're going to do with the series.
I agree.. In Revolutionary Girl Utena, there's only about 4 fillers, but they're pretty good.
In the manga, Nanami was only shown in one photograph
but in the anime, she's one of the sub-main characters and these fillers are there to spread light on who she truly is.
Fillers may stray from the main aprt of the story, but for fans of particular character, they can be quite entertaining.
And, they can be a nice, relaxing change from the tense, seriousness of a series..
Yah, Utena needed those fillers..lots of deep stuff... T.T

sorry if this is hard on the young ones....BULLSH*T!!!!Fillers have absolutely nothing to do with the story....the developments are made when the story returns, not in the fillers....the is no development in the stroy, therefore its not part of the story....if the stroy doesnt proceed in anyway, then its not part of the stroy and therefore has no meaning.do not go saying that fillers are apart of the story.Period...end of stroy...now get over it...

Uhn, I don't particularly like the concept of Naruto, ninja and all, while I've been a fan of Kubo Tite since I read Zombie Powder back a few years ago.
I don't like Shounen in general but I perfer Bleach simply because it has more interesting characters, if a fairly predictable story-line.
The Naruto characters are more like stereotypes, or cardboard cut-outs of a personality. You've got every typical anime character in there, the "I'm going to be the best" obnoxious kid, the emo boy, the fangril, the pervert (several times over), the sexy older woman, ect. Since what I go for in anime is character development, I simply never found Naruto interesting.
I won't mention the fillers since, last I heard, both Naruto and Bleach were in the middle of filler arcs and therefore in the same perverbial boat.
The Bleach manga, which I read and host is excellent though. There's a lot of character development and the story has been able to keep my intrest by seeming so "fresh." Bleach isnt a typical shounen in a lot of ways. Even the Naruto fights have a tendency to be drawn out by talking. Bleach gets a fight done in one episode, very quickly. Or, at least it did, I stoped watching once the filler arc began. Bleach is actually treding dangerous ground, crossing some lines that it's not typical for a mainstream shounen to cross. Naruto has more of the elements of a typical shounen..while sometimes I actually have to question Tite Kubo's sanity, which is a good thing in some ways...
Also, if you're reading the current chapters of Bleach...I love the fact that they're almost directly mocking Naruto. If you're not reading it...there's a character now who looks and acts, let alone has a similar name to Naruto and quickly resorted to calling Ichigo a virgin...which made me unbelievably happy.

Pretty much both shows have your typical stereotypes, so no use really saying it about just 1 of them. Fillers are in fact part of the story, however, its not part of the main plot of the story. If they were to continue the show without the fillers, they will catch up to the manga too fast. When that happens all they can do is stop airing the show, till the manga is further ahead. That's why they are called fillers, it is just something they made up just so they can continue airing it. I realize other animes have fillers too, but most of those are the small animes. Both naruto and bleach span over 100+ eps (naruto 200+), so of course we are going to have more fillers then them, and in Naruto's case, its just useless missions after missions. Atleast Bleach's filler had a story behind it.
Just my personal opinion. And no one should take it too seriously.

They don't have much influence over the whole story, other than to just add background to some characters. They are part of the story, though.
I still don't like Naruto or Bleach. I've seen over 50 episodes of both, and I couldn't stand it. Soooooo boring...*snooze*
KOS-MOS could fall asleep watching those. And that's really saying something xD
They could try and just make the fillers funny...that would work. But then neither one of them are funny shows. T.T Not much, anyways.
50 episodes of fillers? or 50 episodes of the whole show?

hmm well, for sure the fillers weren't good (especially naruto). But middle till the end of the Soul Society arc for bleach I personally liked. And for Naruto everything leading up to Naruto and Sasuke's final fight was good, you should give it alil chance and watch alil more.
note: fillers don't happen between eps, they are a whole arc.

bleach had those"yea they are alright fillers.." while naruto had those"random mission....lets go on a nother random mission, forget about training and sasuke...." like the bleach fillers over naruto(of course)and happy the ended quicker then narutos....the whole naruto story adding up to sasuke and narutos fight was awesome....especially the episode when the tried to see what was under kakashis mask...and kakashi just droped everything to look at pron...but yea...umm..bleach was go from the soul society on ward...when he beat kuchiki, that was it...best boss battle ever....

That's just your own opinion, didn't need to go BEST PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Your most likely going to get into more arguements, if you say stuff like that.

If you really think Bleach and Naruto are boring series then why did you bother to watch 50+ episodes?
Bleach fillers 64-109, Naruto fillers 102-106 136... still going on.
Finally Bleach vampire thingy fillers is ova! "Oh Yeah!"

Like I couldn't stand Final Fantasy X at first...but I gave it a good 5 hours, and then realized that it was awesome. You see?
I may watch Naruto and Bleach's canon episodes, but I have NO intention of sitting through 50+ episodes of ridiculously boring fillers. :3

That´s the spirit!

We watch these animes almost everyday of our lives to see their good points, but the fillers always try to show the bad points and so they become boring and repetitive, and anyway, we don´t have to watch something that won´t make us any good, everyone in the world should do like you said.

Everyone should give a anime good few eps in before judging if you really wanna stop watching it. My friend...hes so lame...if the art style of the anime is not to his liking, he doesn't bother watching it. In doing that hes missing out on alot of good animes.
