I have the dvds that I bought when I was in japan. I do not like how the show has become overrated when it was brought to america, the main problem is many translation issues from the japanese to the english. Also the japanese culture is highly shown throughout this show and all the little children who watch it just think its suppose to be funny when many of these things are serious reflections of japanese daily life. Oh and they slipped lots of south park homages in it, how can you not love it. I suggest to all of you who have only watched the english version to watch the japanese version with commentary by the creators, they wiill give you insight on many things and help you to understand the show more thoroughly. ^_^

i remember the 1st time i saw this show. i was sleeping over my friends and it was when the show 1st aired here. we didnt understand what was going on. we thought we were high (but then again, we were chugging coke and eating skittles well through the nite). then when i finally saw the 1st episode again, i was even more confused. but its still a great show.

When I first saw it, or my guess when other people saw it, we were all like "WTF IS THIS!!!!"

But when I saw all 5 episodes, I was like "that show was f***ing hilariouse" XD

I'd say it was the most funniest and weirdest show I've seen in my life so far XD

The show is really funny, I think it's episode 3 when they have the BB gun fight that's my favorite episode, to bad it's only 6 episodes long. I wonder if it would be funnier if there were more episodes ?

Sorry for the Necromancy, but i didnt want to start a new thread about this just to get it locked.

I was just hoping that I could use this anime as an example to show people what true art is in anime.
FLCL has a main plot, sub plot, main characters, supporting characters, references to classic times, and of course the constant METAPHORS.

I 've watched this series beginning to end 8 times. Ive joined 5 boards about is and watched them all die.

I've become a sort of expert on the show and know how many of the moments and references relate to reality. Which can be as perverted as knowing that the guitars in the show actually symbolize male genetalia, and that the quality and make of the guitar stand for the quality and size of said members, to the fact that all the sexual roles of each charater in the anime is actually the opposite of what it should be. Which when implemented with the guitar factor, turns the meaning of the make of the guitars into the owner's sexual appeal.

And the fact that the writer, who based the story on how they lost their virginity, IS A WOMAN!

Many people will contradict me on that, saying that the writer of the manga is a man. However, many people dont realize that this is one of those rare cases where the Anime is written, completed, and aired in America, 'before' the manga was even started. The writer has since had her information removed from the internet because of the overflow of fan inquiries about the show and if there would be possible sequels. All she said is that there was nothing more to write about since the story never continued.

In the episode where we finally meet Commander Amarou, there is a reference that is sort of ignored, "Swing the bat". Mamimi tells Haruko, "Taccun isnt the type to swing the bat." The implementation is that swinging the bat means following through or going all the way, which leads one to believe that since later in that episode when Haruko pulls out Taccun's Guitar and he uses it, that he lost his virginity. Mamimi then makes the reference, "he swung the bat" showing that something important happened. This is followed by Mamimi's change from a carefree person to a depressed psycho who replaces him out of jealousy with a new Taccun (a cat, or stray, symbolizing a new man).

Im done for now, ill post more later if this doesnt get locked.
