Haseo certainly doesn't act girly though... the tsundere part is debatable, but there are other males with that type of personality.

That's why it's a joke. Haseo starts out grumpy and angry and gradually realizes he loves everyone. Also this was 2007. Other end-of-series artist jokes have included equating .hack characters to the Eva cast because of Sadamoto, and all sorts of wacky things... Besides, it's another nickname for Haseo, and he loves those.

Something tells me I won't see Data Drain in this OVA. I iz sad. D:

If we do see Data Drain then Sakuya might have a bracelet copy. If not then she just has a similar avatar to Kite.

Or she could have it and know how to use it...

Well maybe, her weird nature may actually save her haha. Well maybe from PKs. Not gigantic dragons xD

So besides Sakuya, Tobias, Mary and Hermit, we now know the names of two other players. The Aina look-alike is named Shamrock and the Piros-esque character is named Smith.

Also worthy of note is that they posted some information about the first episode's storyline. I can't really read it all that well though. ^^;

So then, we can be sure that most (if not all) of the characters appearing in .Hack//Quantum are all different players from the ones we knew in GU, right?
Just like the trio of main characters are...very similar to the original characters, although with certain differences, and being actually different characters overall. I hope they'll explain in Quantum itself why they all look like past players...can't be all a mere coincidence, and can't be all because those were the only character choices...we can see other PCs on the market thingy, all looking like R:2's PCs...and it's so freaking "funny" that the characters involved are ALL siimilar to the old "famous" R:2 players simply for no reason, and we're not seeing any Nogmung or Henako look-alike player in the main cast D:

But yeah, from R:2 GPCs, I think Henako is one of my favorites and I'd want her back too. For some reason, I find her more charismatic than most other GPCs '-'

Why do you keep saying R:2? A good 40% of the characters we've seen so far are from R:1. And with ten characters, that doesn't tell us much...

I really like Sakuya's design, but the fact that she's a Kite genderswap is still a bit offputting... plus the wave symbols on her face make me think of Kite, so that leads to me thinking she's manly. XD

The other designs... only one I really like is Mary. Hermit looks goofy, and Smith is Piros the 3rd's armor with a face vaguely reminiscent of Moonstone. That makes me think "lolwut?" And of course, they made Aina even lolier... not sure I like that... ._.

I'm the opposite, I love Hermit so far. lol Its design is so cute and it looks so cuddly and gosh.

The only character design that I've gone "wut?" at is Smith's. When I look at it, I think Piros the 3rd with a Robocop head.

Man, I would totally lol if they made Alkaid a man in this one.

So why exactly do some of these characters have common American names, in a Japanese OVA?

Shamrock's forehead is HUGE. It's reminding me of several characters with huge forehead but what's sticking out most in my mind is Yai from MMBN.

I agree that Shamrock's forehead is cute, and she looks creppy overall....and something just makes me think she's actually played by a guy .___. (that or Sakuya has made me more paranoid about identities, even more than Saburo and Asta). But i actually think that Smith's design is cool, like a great attempt at making Piros look badass XD Yes, he looks somewhat ridiculous...but that's mostly because we're used to seeing Piros in some comical way and automaticly relate that armor and stuff to something funny...so now, seeing him with some Cyclops-like face and overall a serious pose makes us all "lolwut". But i like it o3o

Alkaid = Favorite character of all the (most of them annoying) G.U. fanboys
Male Alkaid = All those G.U. fanboys screaming "WHYYYYYYYYYY" while ragequitting and stuffz
Me = Happy

And yeah, gender swapping characters isn't exactly the best thing i'd like to see...though honestly, i didn't even want to see reused characters to begin with, and i'll still await for the logic/reasonable explanation as of why they have to look like the older protagonist and not like Ninjato or Syake >->; But well, if they're going to be reusing the designs, then at least make them amusing...such like making Alkaid now a male character XDDD
