I kinda like the server thing...
It's annoying that you can't switch, but since I have no desire for things like PvP servers, it never really bothered me. Besides, I've never known anyone else offline who plays it.

You can get a pass from someone you know and go to the server you desire by entering the pass code.
I'm neutral on RMT.

Yeah I know, I've switched several people to Sylph...
But point is you can't switch a pre-existing character...at least, not that I know of, I may be wrong.

Well, not sure it would work.
I'm going to see if my content ID is still restore able.
Last time I restore my char, the GM made it naked, without any item/money, I ask him if he could restore the data on item/money he said no and gave me a fishing rod with 9 bait, the fishing rod broke on the 3rd fish. D:

I used to play it. I played on Leviathan and my character name was Zyro, same as it is here. I jumped around from job to job. My BLM was 44, and WHM 23. Then I tried THF which is 30 and War which is 30. Then I finally stuck with SAM which is 60. But I quit, I could come back if I ever feel the need I want to play I would just have to reactivate my ID's.
Anyway it's a great online game and I really loved it. I was in an LS called Arcanum and they were really great. I met some good people on there and as in all MMO's there was some drama. Lol.
Just a question. Anyone here ever get married on that game?

Um... yeah I was twice actually lol.
It's sooo complicated. The first time, we had to wait 6 months to get the aplication processed. The second time it was fairly fast though. The rehersal is really strict too. When you're processed, you get like... a 30 page e-mail describing how things work.
I origionally wanted it in Bastok, since for some reason or another pretty much everyone I'm close to is from there initially, but it was so dark and gloomy..
The second time we had it in Jeuno which was sooo much nicer. They should have one available in Aht Urghan lol.
It was two different people...btw lol.
Not that I'm a whore, either... People allways seem to think that when I say this. Just... some bad things happened. My friends were all very concerned for me, that I was being used a lot and that he didn't respect me at all...which he didn't, I basically was treated as an object. I actually couldn't even stand up for myself to end things, my friends had to for me. The second time was actually to his best friend too, but we're only friends really, not in love or anything. He's really my best friend in-game and such a total opposite of his best friend lol XD
@ Kai
What kind of crazy GM was that? What a mean person. >_<
I'm sure there's some rule about it...but he has super GM powers, he could at least give you some money to buy new items and such, or artifact if you character was obviously over the level for it, that's what I would do anyway.
That's also why I'd probably be a terrible GM... I'd get fired in one day lol XD

I heard about it but Ive never actually "seen" a married couple in XI. Still most mmos feature it so its prob there.
Anyone have any fond memories of XI?
One of mine was when I was doing my mnk/sam combo in The Boyahda Tree (spelled wrong prob). It was a great place to exp (since I was a mnk and the pt leader, I usually grabbed a drk, blm, brd, rdm and nin or pld.) So we were really pissin off the other pts. For at that time not alot of mnks were around >.>. At any rate we were there for over 15 hours. Just exping, from dusk till dawn. Felt great being with old friends, even better for whacking 3 lvls in a nights work

.
Sanctuary of Zi'Tah FTW!

@ T'Orlyn
I think when you restore your character, it would be strip of items and money, the character that I restore was strip of his AFs too. The GM actually felted sorry for me and gave me a fishing rod although it sucks.

_____
I got married to my [Best Friend who is a female in real life], it took 5 month to progress the application and got the date, the chaperone is the leader of our linkshell, we marry outside the Rhinostery, I actually couldn't choose what place to held it at so she chose Rhinostery because it has a good view, we got hit with a barrage of fire crackers during the wedding ceremony.
She is a mithra and I'm a taru.
No, I will not talk about how I feel that moment. ¬_¬
The wedding was really fun, I like to attend wedding and my linkshell have alot of weddings, large linkshell very large, which have alot of drama too.
The linkshell invaded the wedding afterward.
@Wan
Hit level 75, went NM hunting, marriage, every single time I'm with my friends, and linkshell [Sometimes].
Many moment in FFXI.

Ahh, I didn't know that about the character resoration, I've never done it before.
Hehe Mithra/Taru
That's so cute.
Both of the people I've been married to have been Humes....we're pretty much all humes lol XD
I have so many fond memories from FFXI, mostly from events with my LS.
Both marriages were fun though, and I love helping out new players, getting what pieces of my Relic I have lol, going on quests with my friends. I've been there for years and years it's hard to single any one thing out
I'm so positive about that game... when really I've had almost unending bad luck since I started playing.
I mean, the first day I logged in I was killed numerous times by Twinkleing Treant, one-hit KO.
For those who don't remember or weren't around for the first event to feature the Twinkleing Treant (Since I know they brought it back this year) ..
The first Christmas event on FFXI was basically to take a giant, HNM and place it in the newbie areas. Now this isn't like the other events where they've put monsters there... It was actually an NM. It didn't do damage to your EXP when it killed you, but I was new and didn't know that I would be getting EXP damage in the first place XD.
Anyway, I'm not sure what level it was, but I remember someone /shouting that you had to be at least level 40 to even hit the thing.
So I'd run by, ignorantly try to help heal and die. Then I'd try to avoid the thing, get caught in its AoE and die again.
It was basically a giant...evil...killer........Christmas Tree.
Thanks for the wonderfull Christmas event SE! XD

fond memories of FFXI?
i have a few, the earliest one, although it wasnt to fond of a memory, i remember once getting a level up sometime after jumping servers from Lakshmi to Garuda, and almost the second i level up i get aggroed by two orcs in west ronfaure, and as i ran two more chased after me, killed me and as a result i leveled down >.< sure that was a terrible experience, and certainly not my last, but somehow i cant help but laugh thinking how much the game must have hated me for leveling up that they would send orcs after me as if saying "welcome to Garuda n00b lolz"
a more later memory that i had was when me and my friends 2 from my LS and 1 from RL, were doing that armor event where you would go and kill the armors with a wooden sword. For some reason a horde of people would always appear when the armor we were fighting had at least 1/3 of life left. And to make matters worse those people were always at the opposite side of where we were fighting the current armor, so my friend decides to slap them and eventually both groups got into a big argument well complimented with "/slaps" i get a kick out of that one.
another one that i really like was when i was farming in the top left part of Pashhow marshlands, and someone i knew from a previous LS was farming stuff too, but the problem was that when i would go to attack a monster that person would provoke it while fighting another. This irritated me but i stayed calm. Then they say "dont worry im gonna leave this area in 2 mins, sorry for taking kills from you." and i say "sure its np." After they warp the leech NM pops, and im like "W00t!" so i kill it. The only thing that would add icing on the cake for that time was if i got the rare which i didnt
on a side note, i know not a lot of people do this but do any of you make background stories for your characters?
like take the story i have for my character, who has an infinite grudge against Orcs, because they killed off his family. Well thats the story for my character, i came up with it when i realized i hated orcs since back at a lower level they would always kill me, but not so much anymore. Its not the best back story but i just came up with it out of the blue.

There is another taru name Kactuar in my server, and he is so weird, all he does is slack off leveling and going to glitch areas, he said he was the King of the Cactuars.

well its kinda weird

That's not really true anymore either, that the Japanese have a headstart... they would just like you to think it is.
There's actually been a transition that I can distinctly recall..which is recieveing a /tell saying "Yes! I got JP pt! *dance*" and then a few years later recieveing a tell "f00k...JP pt." It's very true that they have a different playing style, and it tends to be more efficient most of the time.
They don't bother me though, they're friendly for the most part, though I have known a couple to take advantage of the language barrier to insult others =/

The JP pt i was in a long time ago was pretty cool. I dont think they took advantage of the language barrier to insult me or anything like that. I know this because i happen to know some japanese myself. My only problem was that in those cases when you dont have auto translate i wish you could be able to type using japanese characters, but from what i hear thats a japanese only function. Which bums me out because a member of another pt was able to type in japanese and english. He had got himself the japanese version of the game. Regardless i do what i can.
Oh funny thing happened today while i was pting in (ironically) Valkrum Dunes. For kicks i decided to type in 1337, and i even changed my marcos in 1337 too. The pt leader got mad and /slaped me everytime i typed like that saying to type normally and stuff. I also talked to my LS using 1337 as well. they were like "lol whats with the leet?" Truthfully i though it would be funny to do that during the pt i got a good laugh out of it, and i didnt confuse the other part members to where they get messed up in battle. That will be my new favorite recent memory on FFXI lol

It's not a JP only function. There's a program you can download that will allow you to type in the Japanese characters, I have it on my PC. Also, you can switch from Japanese to English if you have the language packs installed, which is why a lot of JP players who know English will simply use it. Or...every once in a while they'll have switched over to eng to type something and forget to switch back and go on typing as normal except in romanji lol.
I was in a Japanese manaburn static for a long long time with my bard ,actually, and for a short time for BLM, only because I stopped leveling it for a while. That's the best exp I've ever seen
...That's why I hate Kuftal Tunnel...it seemed like every single time I had a pt there...Guivre allways poped and with WHM def...it was allways 1 hit KO lol. Oh, and then one time my party got wiped out several times over and instead of leaving, people went and got their higher level jobs or their friends, who then all got raped too XD
That was so sad...it was hallarious =/

Kuftal wasn't so bad when I was a THF and NIN my party die while I stay invisible.
