Thanks for your responses and interest. It's great to see such a fanbase for an awesome show like Roots.

Taskun, hopefully you've watched more episodes so that you can better form your opinion. As is the case with many TV shows, it takes a few episodes to build some momentum. And, as fans, we have already heard different voices for the characters. So I completely understand your point.

I know that I can't personally change your minds. That's just the way animation, and all visual art goes; it's subjective. What I can say is that we were extremely excited when Bandai asked us to do Roots, so of course we agreed! We love the series and work our butts off doing it. We can't change the fact that we couldn't use the same US actors; but we are proud of our work and of the talent performances.

I am always happy to read and respond to any comments, both positive and constructive. So lets continue the dialog! Hopefully we all can learn something from our exchanges.

Thanks, and happy new year!

Overall I'm pretty happy with the show. It must be impossible to appease everyone! I guess Bandai liked your selections for VAs, so if Bandai likes them, I like them.
And I get that you couldn't use the same actors either. It's unfortunate for them to get us fans accustomed to one voice, and then switch it up. Ah well. Not the first time this has happened in Animedom.

Thanks for the postings.

The voices are alright in GU, havent seen to many Roots eps in english to make a argument. But I will say I really hate when a Female does the voice of a guy. I mean the only female voice actor I liked doing a males voices was the one who did Tsukasa's in Sign. Other than that, why do they insist on half assing it? With all the reality TV shows these days, They should make one where they look for Voice actors

O.o Do you realise how hard it is for a man to pull off an effective kid's voice? Its common for women to do male characters even in Japan, and, in fact, the only male VAs I can think of off the top of my head that do effective young kids are Dave Wittenberg and Greg Ayres.

Incidentally, I don't see what that has to do with anything, as all the male Roots characters thus far have been played by male VAs.

PS. Tsukasa's English VA is Brianne Siddall.

@.Team//Roots- I don't mean any disrespect towards you or any of your team's members, but when I first saw the dubbed episodes I absolutely HATED them. Not because they weren't the voices from the games but because they didn't seem to match their characters like I hoped they would. Haseo didn't have any emotion in his voice, Ovan lost the mysterious atmosphere he had, Naobi sounded too much like Neraku from Inuyasha, and Tawaralya seems to just be reading his lines instead of acting them.

And I know you may not have control in how the series is broadcast, but the episodes being rushed to make room for ads made the voices all the more unbearable. By the time episode five aired I was going to stop watching Roots altogether because I thought Ocean had "killed" Roots and ruined it's rep. At the time you guys really made me hate the anime. But a friend of mine told me to keep watching because he was a fan of your team's work and told me it would get better. So I continued to watch Roots and now I'm glad I have.

Nearly all the problem I said above and some I didn't say had completely vanished. The ones that still remain are Ovan, Naobi, and Tawaralya. But the rest of the cast has improved and even surprised me by it's changes. There are still a few bugs that need to be fixed but you guys are doing a great job and I hope to get this series on DVD soon.

Haseo- B
Shino- A
Ovan- C
Tabby- A
Sakisaka- B
Naobi- C
Ender- A
Tawaralya- D
Phyllo- C
Gord- B
B-Set- A

I think it's episode 10, and yes the voices have gotten better. I still dislike Ovan and Tawaralya but they'll just vanish and I'll be able to watch the show without having to mute my T.V. or anything. As you can see in my grades, I like Tabby's voice even more then those two.

The problems will stick their heads out every now and then, but its becoming fewer as the episodes go by.

wave killer, I'm glad to hear that you stuck around. It's very satisfying to hear that your impressions have been changed. And also that your post may have swayed others to continue watching.
It is definitely appreciated.
And yes, unfortunately we don't control how the episodes are broadcast.

Thanks for the kudos!

It's really no problem. I apologize for criticizing your work before the dub hardley got out the door. I just wish .hack//Roots wasn't speeded because I think that's what makes the voices sound bad. Either way I'll watch //Roots to see what Saburo's voice will be like and how Haseo's and Tabby's characters will develop over time in english.

To all those who quit //Roots because of the voices, don't worry it's going to get better. The anime is only getting started and we haven't even got to the good points of the series. Ocean's selected cast isn't as bad as you really think.

I actually like most of the voices for roots. The only ones that I can think off the top of my head that I don't like are Tabby and Haseo. I think Tabby's is annoying, but it suits her. Haseo's reminds me of a surfer sometimes. xD Also, I like Ovan's voice in roots more than G.U.

I guess we all have different opinions. :P

I wish that there was a bit more action in roots, but that's not something that can be changed. :/ I still watch it every Saturday, though!

That goes with any anime/movie/whatever. The voices usually do sound abstract at first but get better over time.

We won't know how Haseo sounds until he does get all crazy. I've seen some of Andrew's work and he can get pretty crazy!

Phyllo and Ovan aren't that bad, I just think they need some changes (Read my post from before to see what I mean.)

As for Tabby, I think she's the best of the whole cast. Her VA captures her personality so well its nearly flawless.

Somehow, I like Phyllo's voice and Tabby's voice. Like you said, Tabby's oice fits her perfectly. The sped up footage is probably what makes the voices sound weird at times, but I wouldnt really know anymore. I download the dub with the fixed audio (no speeeding up).

Not heard the voices yet at all (living in hte uk not on tv here so have to wait on the dvd's to come out). If you have trouble with the english voice cast best advice is either watch the Sub on either fan sub if you still have it, or on the dvd when it's out.

Something I meant to say last week.

Thank god for Johnny Yong Bosch.

That about sums up my opinion of Rootsdub!Kuhn. He's oddly the only Roots dub voice I actually hate.
