I think they are just friends. They don't show any signs of having a true female-female relationship

They certainly love eachother, but that's just my opinion.

Yea, i think the show was trying to show us that they DID love eachother, or maybe I was the only person who caught that....

Well, they certainly did prove that they loved eachother.

Yeah, but that love could easily be just that of really close friends. It doesn't necessarily have to a romantic one. It could have advanced into a romantic one, but I feel that it was only a love that is shared between really really close friends. That's just my humble opinion.

I agree with what Beowulf says. There is nothing to suggest that anything they are doing isn't morally straight

did you just say morally straight? that's pretty close to suggesting as in being homosexual is morally wrong.....eww....that's disgusting....and narrowminded

but anyways back on task! I love the relationship between Tsukasa and Subaru...it's complex on so many levels and for me is a major reason to why I like the series so much It is this Baku's personal opinion that they love each other and would do anything for each other!

so cute!

Who cares about what the genders of these individuals are, personally I think they are wonderful together. She's part of the reason he logs out in the first place. It was her caring heart and compassion that gave Tsukasa the need and desire to log out. On a deeper level I think they are soulmates. Thats my 2 cents. What does everyone else think?
They're best friends. I think there relationship is based on who they are in their hearts. Remember Tsukasa felt pretty alone untill he/she met Subaru who is just like him/her.
I may not have a right to comment...

Since I haven't seen the entire .hack//SIGN series. I have seen a bit of it, though...and based on other things I have learned from various places, including this topic, I think that it was left ambiguous on purpose. That way, some people could think they are just close friends, and others could think it goes deeper.
My opinion? Well, I think that it could be both. Simply because they might be lesbian lovers, does not mean they could not remain close friends. And just because they are close friends, doesn't mean they cannot be lovers. The two are not mutually exclusive. I don't really care if they are gay or not, it's not a big deal...My desires for the status of their relationship isn't valid, because I want them to do whatever their hearts think is best. Since they aren't real, this cannot happen
And to the person who said that the two, if they were lovers, could not have children...well, parthenogenesis research is coming along. You never know what the future holds, yo.

Ill say what I have said before:
Relationships in .hack//series are very deep. They don't rely on good looks or the other materialistic things of the 'Real World'. They are purely basing their love/friendships on trust and personality... I mean there might be the ocational 'ooo Mimirus hot'and stuff, but other then that it follows a pretty deep connection

Tsukasa and Subaru were only friends. They didn't have an intimate relationship (i.e. - Lovers). Tsukasa and Subaru have a "soul-bond" in which both seek comfort. Both of them suffer from very painful memories and experiences and it's that one thing they share that makes them close. They both seek refuge from their pain through their friendship and their understanding of one another's emotional suffering. However this does not make it an intimate relationship. Friends can be close friends without being lovers. If there was a plot twist that huge, I believe that the creators would have made it plainly clear.
I could go further but that's as simple as I can put it without rambling off.

Tsukasa and Subaru are not gay. Even if they were slightly so, they have a pretty big age difference.
Also, also, here is a pic of the IRL Mimiru:

Asukai, I think what you mean is "They love eachother, but they're not IN love with eachother." Right? If that isn't it, sorry, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth or anything like that. Anyways, thats what I feel. They love eachother as friends but they aren't IN love or sexualy attracted to eachother.

Sorry if I'm repeating anyone (no time to read through 6 pages), but I found that Tsukasa and Subaru's relationship seemed very real. It's not uncommon in an online game for people to choose avatars an opposite gender from themselves (though I guess Tsukasa had more reason to than most), so I thought that was interesting Tsukasa turned out to be a girl. I always assumed once it was revealed Tsukasa was a girl, that Subaru and Tsukasa could never be together in the love way, but had an extremely deep relationship none the less. It was sort of tragic that way.
But, I'm all for them going 'farther' in their relationship in //ZERO, Love who ya want I always say

There's just one life to live, after all.

I think it's awesome that Subaru and Tsukasa are both girls who love each other. They were made for each other

I still think they're just friends.

There's just more pointing towards friendship than intimacy.

Amen to that! I agree with you, they're just friends that have a strong bond.
