I was drawn to .hack because of the idea behind it. The idea of a mass online game that you interact with and become characters and take on different personalities than what your really like in the real world.

I heard about it a little bit when it first came out, but I never really bothered. Then one of my friends bought the manga, but it was the second volume and I didn't get into it right then.
Finally, one of my other friends shoved Mutation in my face and told me to play it. I got hooked after about five minutes, but had to stop playing and wait untill I got Infection so I wouldn't spoil anything...
Of course, another person was borrowing his copy of it so I had to wait untill Christmas when I got my own.

My friend. I didn't really care about anime all that much, but then he let me borrow the complete first season of Steel Angel Kurumi, and I watched it, because I had nothing better to do. Of course, I thought it was pretty awesome, so then he let me borrow .hack//legend of the twilight.
Since anime was quite new to me, I loved it, of course. Then I started getting into the rest of .hack (except for the small stuff, like GIFT, and the fan-faction novels.

Decipher created a new card game based on some anime I had never heard of. I was playing several other games by the company at the time and since they were putting free demo decks that you could print out online I was willing to give it a go. I loved the mechanics of that game from the first time I played it and still do.

SIGN when it first came out in Japan. It had the feel of new-age animation like Noir, and a very weird and interesting story, and was based on a really cool concept. The games came later...

For me it was the dot Hack//SIGN. I caught it on Cartoon Network and at first I thought it was too wordy and kinda boring. But the more I watched it the more I was hooked and when I finally understood exactly what the story was all about it just pulled me in and I've been addicted ever since.

The .hack//dusk anime was on TV one night when I was laying on the couch bed. I saw there was something anime-ish on, so I turned the volume up and watched. The art rocked, and everything seemed so cool... so I got hooked watching it. (When I first saw it I though Rena and Shugo where a couple! xD And that you started out in peasant clothes and bought new ones... I thought lots of werid stuff.) My friend had asked me if I had watched .hack//sign(though she ment dusk) one time and I said no but she didn't go any farther.

I saw the commercials for the first game on Cartoon Network, and I couldn't tell if it was a video game with anime cut-scenes, or what, so I bought it to see (but not after doing some research and deciding I'd take the risk of wasting 50 bucks), and instantly fell in love. A bit later I realized .hack//SIGN was part of th games, so I began watching that..and well, have been a .hack fan ever since

The fact that hack is a wide range of medias, is what drew me to Hack.

The ads on the sidebars in gaming magazines are what drew me. I bought .hack//Infection and was instantly hooked. I didn't even know there was an anime series with it (I was in Korea, so I was behind on the times). After I bought the games I bought the .hack//Sign series, and then volume one of .hack//Dusk (or Legend of the Twilight, or Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, or Udeden). I still need to order the other two mangas. Cheaper than getting all the DVDs. Or maybe I'll just get both. Now I'm a .hack//Fanatic.
