Japanese or English?

yay i got it.anyway subtitles are cool!!! you can realy tell what the are saying like fo the sign intro music instead of bla bla bla in japanese with subtitles i know that the are singing in english well kinda like te beggining "how come i most know" "where bla bla bla"

The only problem with subtitles is you have to read it to find the joke.

one bad thing about subitles you keep on looking at thm and you can barely watch the showit self

I have sub. and dub. anime. Mainly because I like the Japanese voice acting better than the English. However, I do enjoy a few dubs more(Spiral, Chrno Crusade, FMA, Gensomade Saiyuki((the ADV dubb)), etc).

Then, there are some where watching the dub is just not acceptable(Naruto, One Piece, Sailor Moon((I have a pet peeve with this one)), Pokemon((Whiney... *insert curse word of choice*)), Tokyo Babylon, Card Captor Sakura, etc.)

Notice I named mostly 4KIDS dubs('cept for the last two and Sailor Moon). I hope this tells you something.

True, but the game .Hack//Mutation for example. If you have it set on English the character speak English and the words appears. If you have it set on Japanses the character speaks Japanese and the words appear. Either way is okay with me.

Ooh, it's a tough choice at times. Mainly, I go for Japanese. Sometimes dubbing goes over REALLY well, though. Look at the .hack video games. They even got English VAs that sounded similar to the Japanese VAs. (Well, sometimes they were a tad off, but compare that to what 4Kids does, and you'll feel differently.)

A lot of people can't focus on the words and image at the same time, which is perfectly alright. I don't like looking at subtitles during more action-oriented scenes because you miss a ton of what's going on. I've been working on reading the words while focusing on the picture using my peripheral (if I'm spelling that correctly) vision. It'll help me out in more aspects of life than one.

But I know that bad voice-acting and poor voice choices for characters can absolutely slaughter a dub. Look at Pokémon and Yuugiou (excuse me, "Yu-Gi-Oh!"). I mean, sure, they were horribly mangled dubs to begin with, but the terrible voices sure didn't help anything.

It's odd, though. If you go into a series listening to the English track, it's sort of hard to listen to the Japanese one, and vice-versa. I mean, I listened to .hack ENTIRELY in Japanese. (I bought the $150 box-set (which was a STUPID decision, might I add.) Then, after I finished up, I went back and listened to the English VAs. For the most part, they were alright, but some made me burst out laughing. (Particularly Sora (I want to know what they were thinking on that one), Subaru, and Tsukasa, the last of which traumatized me with flashbacks of Pokémon's "Ash Ketchum" for some reason.)

But, to each his/her own, right? =D

depending on what anime it is.

If its like Wolf's Rain, itll be english for im not too fond of the jpn voice overs.

Or if its like Akira (i can do either or) as with Blue Sub. 6.

Lastly if its like Samurai Champloo...well...its laughable on both sides XD.

Well, I think whatever the default is, since most animes(or all) are in Japanese, I prefer in japanese, but if the game is american, than I prefer English

Most of the american dubbers sound like someone is sticking something in their thing. The Japanese version sounds more natural <:

Probably because people feel a greater familiarity with American voices and can't tell when a Japanese voice 'sounds like someone's sticking something in their thing'.

That's another thing that makes me choose English over Japanese; the voice recognition. Save for a few, Japanese Seiyuu's voices tend to blur when it comes to my voice recognition ability, whereas I can immediately associate numerous English VA's voices with a name.

In that sense, its a bit like watching a film for star appeal, if it stars someone like Monica Rial or Greg Ayres, then I'm more inclined to watch it as I know they're very capable VAs.

Have to agree with Umbra. Plus, when you're listening to a voice in a language that you don't really understand, it's harder to tell where the emphasis is in the sentence, which makes it harder to get any feeling out of it.

Sometimes, though, the voices are better for the Japanese version than they are for the English version, and you can tell. That's usually pretty sad, because it often means the English voice is just that bad. But it's still easier to get feeling out of a voice that's spoken in a language you understand.

Many people seem to choose Japanese over English purely because that's the original language. One reason for this is because they become used to the Japanese voices and the English voices are a challenge of perspective; the other reason is that they feel that watching it in Japanese leaves it in an 'untainted' state.

Just because something is in its original language doesn't mean it can't be improved upon in the translation process, or even remain on par. I remember reading a comment on the Madlax dub which I found rather interesting; the English dub was largely believed to be of a better quality than the Japanese original, with VAs that fitted the characters to a greater degree.

I will agree that there are numerous awful dubs that exist; largely 4Kids creations such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, though I will say that I'd probably learn to live with the dub if it was accurate. However, there are numerous localisation companies that employ brilliant dubbing and use excellent English VAs; particularly ADV, Manga and FUNimation.
