The balance doesn't come from D&D, it comes from you not saying, "My class is the super rape knight of awesomeness. It destroys everyone else here and I win."

It could be something like a guy that specializes in using improvised weapons, has a knack for saving babies, and always gets the girl.
In other words, I could say something like "My bard controls animals with music, causing them to swarm my enemies. He also makes 600 Gold every time he leaves a bar because he's a musician." and it'd be cool?
Well, the last bit about the girl was a joke.
"My bard controls animals with music, causing them to swarm my enemies...
That would actually work.
He also makes 600 Gold every time he leaves a bar because he's a musician."
Er...that's a ruling made at the DMs discretion. If you're character is good enough, sure...I guess. I'm trying to keep stats out of it. This is more of a way for people to make their own personal "character" in the community to use as they like.

I'm just curious but do any of you guys prefer sneaky types?

Yo. The original Kale was a fighter/thief. Yes, thief. Advanced D&D. Sadly he only lasted the one adventure since it was padre, my sister, and I. 2 of the 3 people involved lost interest/got busy so it died, but Kale lives on! I remade him as a ninja for a once again brief 3.5 campaign that a friend ran. And for a One Piece inspired game Kale was a gun toting doctor with a specialty in herbalism. We'll just treat that like Star Trek treated their first batch of Klingons. A genetic experiment gone wrong. Next time I get the chance to make a Pathfinder character for a campaign he shall live again as a rogue. I think I will keep the herbalism of doctor Kale though. If it wouldn't have been so unfitting I would have made him instead of Gray for the one I'm currently in.

I love the idea of sneaking around, picking locks, disarming traps, and stabbing guys in the back. My Oblivion character did just that.

And as for a backstory...I make a new one every time I make a character, even if I'm remaking an old character. I have decided on one of two possible goals for Kale though. One, survive long enough to retire in comfort and open an herbalism shop. Or two, become the leader of a Thief's Guild. I still need to work out the how and why an Elf would turn to thievery though.

I been reading about a lot of people that played AD&D lately (on various sites), why is that? So I'll just go with, uh...reincarnation... for Kales background. Also, Thief, Ninja, and an Herb Doctor related specialist class will be added.

In the world of fiction where you can be whatever you want, I'd hope there are people sneaking around stealing and stabbing people in the back.

Well, that depends on the setting. For example:
On the game world I used to play (which was called Tormenta), there was no "great elven city/kingdom". There once was a big elven city, but it was destroyed after an immortal Hobgoblin general united the Goblins, Orcs, Hobgoblins and BugBears into what was called the "Dark Aliance" and won the war against the elves. Since then, the elves have been a homeless race (also, most forsaken their goddess, so it's hard to find an elven cleric or paladin), while the Dark Aliance rules over the half south part of the continent.

It's not hard to imagine an elf thief on that scenario. Actually, there the most common classes for an elf are Rogue, Ranger and Sorcerer.

Character Sheet
Just noticed they show Constitution twice on that sheet. There's a second CON instead of charisma o.o

Thanks for pointing that out, didn't notice the second constitution....I'll find a better one.

Here's a better example-http://rpgcentric.com/wp-content/upload ... -sheet.jpg

This should give you an idea of what all you can build your character like (which is nearly any way).

Bard.
Easily.

Also, why isn't there a soothsayer class? It's something that would fit perfectly within the realm of D&D

I've taken interest in this thread when I learned about spellswords from oblivion, I think its a great deal having a guy who knows some decent spells and knows how to handle a sword as well.

Yay! A reason for me to come back to the boards (or not, if there's no action going on still....)!
Good to see someone playing and learning the value of classes from Oblivion. My favorite game to mod of all time=Oblivion.

So Kaori is a enchantment casting, magic infused Spellsword and Nobodyknows is a suave, song-singing, instrument-playing bard. Awesome.

That's completely understandable. As much as I love the game, I have to take it in small doses now. Are you playing it on PC or console?

People probably could have guessed, but I prefer mage. But I don't like monotony so I usually pick something random I feel like at the time. In fact, my "mental image" of what I'd be in R:2 is Steam Gunner. That's basically just some sort of physical mage with totally broken stats, though...

@Kaori-Oops, I meant to ask what platform do you play Oblivion on. Legend of Heroes did look interesting...

@Kuukai-So I'll mark you down as a Mage (that is willing to dabble in other arts).

I was going to suggest you a nice mod site for Oblivion, but I guess that wouldn't be of much help since you've got it on PS3...
