I've never really saw what was so terrible about QTE. Would I like to do all the awesome stuff going on in actual gameplay? Sure but I can't imagine how that would be implemented. The only thing I dislike about QTE is that it usually doesn't lead to alternatives, if you fail you either die or start over, I'd rather it adapt and do something different. Say I miss a button, rather than hit a boss I should miss and this leads to a string of different QTEs that have me dodging or something.

That said it isn't really something I'd say I loved but at the same time I don't see what's so wrong with them.

Cinematic quick time events.
You're so focused on the buttons that you end up missing the "cool looking scene" and it ruins part of the game for you. I mean, Haven: Call of the King's final boss fight is entirely QTE, what kind of jerk does that!?

That's why the Eva game was so damned addictive. You could make anything happen. Your arm could get cut off--or not. You could succeed in all the places characters in the anime failed, or you could do something totally new. If you improvised, Asuka and Shinji could too, and land on their feet rather than falling asleep like they do in training. There's even a scene gallery to rewatch every event you've gotten once you uber-clear the game, and there are still some I think I've never seen...
