No, fail. The ending was great. Most of the people I've met or talked to who thought the ending sucked didn't actually get what happened or why it ended the way it did.
(They were all dead). You might have gotten it, but really it was a very interesting ending that left a door open for a sequel and (god forbid) added a bit of an enigma at the end and not a formulaic "tie all loose ends" closing.
Wait, who's dead? You're talking about the cult members, right?

At least, I hope he is.

No, everyone was dead. Silent Hill was destroyed due to a fire in the mines that are below the town. In that fire, everyone died including the little girl who was terribly disfigured by the torturous actions of the cult that persecuted her. While she was still alive, though, she made a sort of deal with a demon-like character to get revenge on the people of Silent Hill. When the town was burned, everyone died and Silent Hill became a nightmarish purgatory parallel to the real Silent Hill where the citizens were turned into monsters and the cult members were left alone due to 'holy' protection of whatever god they worshiped. Since the little girl was unable to touch the cult members who found refuge in their church, she trapped the policewoman, the mother, and her daughter in Silent Hill by killing them in a car crash in order to help her punish the cult members who still felt they were safe. So then the daughter becomes lost and in the process of looking for her, the policewoman dies and the mother is the one who ultimately carries out the little girl's will for the sake of her child. Once the girl gets her wish and the people are punished, the mother and her daughter are then allowed to leave Silent Hill. However, they remain still in a sort of limbo where the dead reside that is parallel to the physical world. The twist is that they make the car crash so insignificant that the audience forgets about it and is left with the impression that they're still alive, but in a sort of Twilight Zone dimension.

silent hill was a great movie. I loved the symbolism in there. In for the ending, i presumed they were stuck in the alternate sort of dimension that the girl brought them into. But I would like to know more..
as far as xmen3... Xavier did not die, if you stuck around after credits you saw that he transferred his mind into the body of the unconcious man he was lecturing to the students about at the beginning of the movie, so while his physical body is gone, his mind still exists and shares the conciousness of another man.
and about Resident Evil.... my guess is that the third will be similar to the first two, mostly girls shooting big guns.
----edit
okay SilentOp, i just read what you wrote and i have a few questions. If everyone in silent hill died, then how did the policeman survive with others to come in and carry the girl's body out in attempt to save her? And they werent protected in the church by holy protection because it was thier false insecurities and lies that were protecting them. I dont remember the exact quote or what the word used was, but whatever protected them was definately a figment of what they made themselves.

All three of them were dead. After they crashed on the rivine, they were unable to leave Silent Hill. When the movie ended, the mother and the daughter (the only ones still alive) were allowed to leave and the gap in the road that separated Silent Hill from the rest of the limbo world was restored. No one actually left Silent Hill until the very end.

Yes, I know, that was the symbolism. The God they worshipped was their own dillusion (hence why I put 'holy' in quotes). Since it was a summary, I was just simplifying it. And would you put these kinds of things in spoiler brackets so that you don't ruin it for anyone who hasn't' seen the movie yet.

I didn't know the mom, officer, and daughter died... Wow. I thought they were just stuck in the middle layer of Silent Hill at the end. Fog enshrouded and populated by monsters, but not as extreme as the "Otherside". So they took the movie ending in the direction of the worst ending for the first game. Harry is slowly dying, and the entire game is just a dying mans dream...
I guess I'm just so used to the first game. I kinda forgot Alessa wasn't a witch or whatever, so she didn't have her counterparts like in the games.
Yeah, I thought you were saying Rose and Sharon were dead, and I thought they were still alive. I guess not...
Edit:

Silent Hill has 3 layers. One layer is the normal, everyday Silent Hill that normal people see. In the movies case, it's the abandoned one with the coal fire still burning. The Cop and father had to wear the masks. They were in the "Normal" layer. The rest of the movie takes place in the other 2 layers. The middle layer is the fog enshrouded, daytime Silent Hill. There's few monsters. The final layer is the "Otherside". Everything becomes dark, decayed, and fleshy.
I think that's about it...

Exactly. As I said before, Silen Hill is a PARALLEL limbo to the physical world. The father and the policeman were in the physical Silent Hill whereas the woman and her daughter were in the hellish purgatory that was but a shadow of Silent Hill.

ya, I just watched silent hill movie last night-it 's second half atleast. the ending was some of the most ScReWeD up movie ending and yet i wanted to see more. trust me-just about everyone in the "purgatory" died, except mum and daughter, but the father and cop never went to Limbo.
And resident evil had better go back to a little more horror then RE2. It became an action movie, preety much. I still loved it but i liked the horror part.

No i mean when the cop was telling the father the story about how when the fire first broke out how he took the girl who was burned and they put her in the hospital. Cause you see the flashback seen where the original mother runs out and brings the police but was too late.

That was normal Silent Hill. That's the way Silent Hill was, until the fire broke out and turned it into a ghost town.

The long wait killed it. it will blow chunks, and I'm not talking about zombie chunks (there will be those), but it will make you want to puke in terms of story (and the story will suck).

No. But I've seen the first two, and it was okay. But somehow, my gut is telling me i'd be wasting cash if I went and saw it.

I pretty much despise andersons work because of his tendancy to cast an unstoppable, unphasable women as the lead in every one of his movies. He kind of ignores the idea of "Survival horror" when he made alice all super crazy. There's just no struggle.

I want to see the situation with Sherry Birkin get resolved once and for all. Is she carrying some kind of new mutant strain inside her? That all depends on player choices during the game, so it really has yet to be set in stone whether this subplot is canon or not.
And I agree with Wiryu's comment: Alice's dominance over pretty much every foe she comes across seems more like DMC than Resident Evil.
