Because
-People want to have completely new characters
-Sora losing all his The World memories is a pretty crappy background
-People just cannot picture Haseo like Sora and vice-versa
-They simply disagree

I'm still neutral, but i believe Haseo=Sora more than Haseo=/=Sora

It is ust out of place somehow.I can't look at Haseo and see the bratty kid who flipped sides more than a coin.
It's just something that dosn't prosess,and there is no rock solid evidence pointing ether way.
And action or non action a fan notices can both support and destroy this theory,it is a personel beleif in the end(Alot of fans tend to see more than what is there,which isn't a bad thing...I do it alot...)

wether or aot he matured,we all knew him mainly as the bratty kid,so that's who we think of.

It's like saying that you saw someone 3 years ago,never after that,then knew exactly how they acted when you saw them for the first time,and knowing exactly what they had changed into.
We didn't see sora for all those years,so we can't assume he got any more mature.

She was the Ultimate AI, not the perfect one. There's a difference.

1. If data can talk on it's own that has to be AI.
2. If data can act on it's own it also has to be AI.
3. Skeith used Sora's PC to move through the world freely on a sub-conscious level.
4. Skeith has the ability to go "berserk" which really means that is has deviated from it's host control and is acting on it's own accord.
Technically, an NPC could do all of those.

It seems that Skeith's actions while "berserk" where anger and aggression which seems to mimic the users attitude and playing style. Sora seemed to enjoy PKing as much as Haseo began to enjoy it even if Haseo's data was corrupted and his mind was somehow altered they both had that same pleasure. I think? It's a possiblity that emotions somehow effect the phases. Just a possibility is what I'm saying. But anything that is data and can deviate from it's root command like the Phases is an AI. Now if Morrganna Mode Gone had re-written the root commands and sub-commands that is different.....I think.
None of that is really relevant.

1. What do you consider different?
2. Technically if NPC's could do this wouldn't that mean the have developed some kind of AI even if it's inferior AI?

Well, for one thing, being perfect means you make no mistakes, while being the Ultimate AI is all ABOUT making mistakes for the benefit of growth.

Or just good programming. The only criteria for labeling something an AI is independant thought, emotions, and self-awareness. Basically consciousness. It's theoretically a pretty easy thing to IMITATE consciousness with .hack's technology.

Unless they end up telling us that the account got fully controlled by the AI Sora, and when that AI started looking at The World as a boring place, it 'cancelled' itself and returned to the sea of data, where it got merged with Skeith's data.

Just a random theory of mine.

The A.I. sora was it's own being.It didn't steal sora's account,or else they would not have stated that the R.A. plan had considered sora,but that he had canceled his account.
The A.I. was given it's own account.
An A.I. would not terminate it's existance because it was bored.

the terminal disc says sora canceled his account. do we even have a context for this? sure the twilight incedent was likely related, but do we know if Sora himself canceled his account or did some his parents force him? it hardly seems relevent though.

If he was forced, then he would at least remember that he did. But putting that way, it's more likely that the parents cancelled the account instead of Sora himself. If he really did, like it's said already, then it would mean he still had remembers of The World (even if it's only for cancelling an account, you should at least know how and where to go, and notice all 'The World' title names and stuff while you're at it)

By overwhelming majority though, 10-year-olds are more mature when they're 16.

We don't even know how The World subscription works, he could have passively cancelled by not playing, or not known what the bill was for, or something... In any case, these are the exact same things that would surround Haseo's departure from The World, since he clearly cancelled in some way too, so this point does nothing for the not-Haseo case...

... Unison IS considered canon. The Udeden anime isn't, Udeden is Key of the Twilight Bracelet, Shugo and friends.

Unison might not be. BlackRose's email in Rebirth paints a somewhat different picture of the aftermath of the games than Unison did. Either way, there's the AI trump card to explain Sora...

Nearly a fifth of the .hack anime out so far is uncanonical. You can't say that about in-game emails... I think... Either way it's up in the air. Like GIFT, Unison was a stand-alone bonus OVA, who knows what they were going for? Personally, I find the monkey-dancing far more damaging to the plausibility of the .hack series than Sora being Haseo.
