is world peace possible

I'd like to quote Mariemaia Khushrenada if I may:

History is much an Endless Waltz. The three beats of War, Peace, and Revolution shall resound eternally.

...or something like that.

Personally, I don't see this concept of "peace" to be wholly obtainable.
Much like the word perfection, peace is subjective is some respects.
Conflict and strive, revolution and peace.
These are unfortunate side effects of freewill.

So long as humans have the ability to think for themselves,
(or at least the illusion)
then true "peace" will be quite hard to obtain.

Light and Dark define and beget one another.
Without one, the other has no purpose, no form.
It's an endless cycle.

well no, as long as there are different ideas around in world, there will be hatred and war, now if everyone became robots programmed to like 1 thing, do 1 thing and have no individuality then yes there can be world piece, but there are just to many conflicting religions and ways of looking at the world that peace is not an option.

Hmm... yeah a lot of people say that when I mention Socrates' "perfect" sosciety.

There are 6+ bill people in the world, and having everyone agree on one thing (regardless if its world peace) is impossible. Besides everyone would then have a different perspective of what "world peace" means to them and their country.

So is it possible? Nope.

Simply put: World peace is impossible. In order to have world peace, there would have to be no clash of ideas and all would have to remain perfect. Pot is...it aint gonna happen.

peace accures when there is no longer change, difference, or movement.

unless time comes to an end, there shall be no peace.

People are inherently selfish by nature. Consequently, it drives people to turn against one another in interest of themselves. Thus, conflict arises. So long as man exists, there will always be conflict and there will always be war. All we can do is lessen the amount of conflict between military forces.

World peace is impossible for many reasons. Like many others have said, people always have different thoughts and are always naturally violent, aggresive or envious of other people. That is why simple things like these will never bring a world of peace.

And also, the only way I can imagine a world at peace would be for all humans to cease existing and for all intellectually advanced animals, or creatures to die too. That way, the entire universe would be in peace.

I see the hatred, jelousy, envy, and deciect of others and in myself, true.
But...with dilligent and dedicated meditation, such emotions can be mastered. There is a difference between master and supression or elimination too. Mastery simply means that you have the ability to turn it off, like a faucet. You become the master of yourself, and it's suprising how much clearer things become when you attempt to think wholey rationally.

I don't think it's hopeless, unlike..appearantly everyone else lol XD
I do not believe that man is a beast to his core, but is instead, as I said, just very very young in the big picture of things.

World Peace is like a sci-fi movie; it's good to believe in it, but The chance's of it being real are very extremerly low.

I can see what your saying T'Orlyn, in that it's not what man is that make's the world like it is but what man does. It's basically the dot-on-paper.

Draw a single dot on a piece of paper, and what do you see? common answer=a dot
Look at a piece of paper and tell me what you see? common answer-nothing.

It's only the imperfection's that get noticed, while the good stuff is hidden, and has attention drawn away from it. Unless people are able to get back on to the goodness, then world peace will never come about.

Believe me, it's not as though we don't want it to happen. Hell, I wished it would happen tomorow but the fact's are that it just won't by yourself. you have to get the solid majority to agree, then you might have a peacful situation.

Unfortunately, even a "solid majority" is not enough.

So long as the minority exists, not matter how small, then dissention will continue.

Even if one man is the difference, the path he walks will create tension.
His footfalls upon his chosen path shall create ripples, which shall usher change in the masses.
These ripples will continue, becoming waves.
Soon the world becomes drown in new thought, and those who oppose the new wave with fight back.

When you throw a peeble into the stream, the ripples may eventually die, but the stream is no longer the same as before.
It will carry this change ever more within its flow

human beings do everything for ourselves. we never do things that arn't greedy or selfish. even if we help somone else out it's be becuse WE enjoy them. every action is selfish, were always striving to make our selfs happy.

that being said, world peace is impossible becuse everyone will always have different ways of becoming happy.

I do think it's a little sterotypical.
I do some community work because I like to, and I know other people who do it to just because they know it's right. My friends and I do a lot of things in the Suwebo area (south west Baltimore) Not all people are completely selfish, just a lot of them are. I would do more but I have a very busy art schedule. Most of what we is just local area work, but at least it helps some, considering this isn't the best of neighborhoods, cleaning up the parks a bit and participating in local fundraisers is an easy way to do our part. And, even though there's a lot of crime and such the people who live here are proud of helping out their neighborhood.

A lot of the times the volunteers are people who have to help because of paroll or since even certain schools require community service; however, there are also people who help out just because they like to. Even if it makes you feel better to help, it proves humanity isn't completely, entirely, overwhelmingly selfish.

That's what I think at least XD
I just like to keep a positive outlook, I suppose =/

yeah another descussion that will never be resolved! i have seen a few of these topic here and i think that yeah we can talk about this but sometimes it just gets so borring hearing people repeat the samething over and over with out geting any where but yeah jsut as i said people just repeat things over and over and dont get any where and that is why there can t be world peace........unless we were all under one rule but that will also never happen so as for now fihgt fight fight for something that can never happen
