Neon Genesis Evangelion--A Series In Review
Moderator: Moderators
Actually, Rydis is right, EoE was the intended ending for Evangelion. The reason the ending of the TV series was so different, was because TV Tokyo didn't want to air something so hardcore. So Gainax was forced to rewrite the ending. My guess is that they purposely made it so confusing and bizarre just to get back at the network execs.
"you want a new ending? we'll give you a new ending, but no garauntees that it'll make sense!" y'know?
Bascially EoE corrosponds with the tv series.
In the TV series, the lsat 2 episodes go through the case of Shinji, Rei and Asuka. What you see happening in the TV series is what going through the minds of the people during EoE. Its hard to tell specific details without spoiling EoE for those who havn't seen it.
Its not any more confusing then the TV series. Just wants going is is really messed up. There are very in depth theories and analsys as animation.com evangelion forum. Some of them threads though could take days to read ^^.
Wow this thread went off topic quick

Ill go and dig up the articles for ya
I can't find the scans of the Red Cross Book (JP only book). In the book it shows the original script and design sketches that only appear in EoE. It was scrapped and replaced with the TV ending. After profits were made from the sales, they took their original script and sketches and made EoE.
the TV series was a substitute, not the original intended ending, however, they are still essential the same thing told different ways.

^ You do know that the Red Cross Book is official book that was handed out during the premier of EoE in Japan that contains almost all information on Evangelion. Art designs, heigh comparisons, story board art, original and scrapt scripts.
It is dictated in that book that EoE was meant to be the original (more or less along the lines, so things were changed)
I am sorry but an Official book > that you say.

Wow, this topic took quite a turn... wonder if I should even get into it?
Well, I haven't seen EoE, and I don't plan to buy the movie just to see it, but I do hope to watch the movie someday.
I don't really care for NGE. It was interesting at first, but eventually I was only watching it on [adult swim] to see the ending. Ahh, the ending. Twasn't that it was bad; it was a bit confusing, but not that bad. It just felt so abrupt, something felt lacking.
And before anyone jumps on me, I know that the episodes shown on AS aren't the full, uncut version. But I still watched the main of it, and I still don't like it.
Also, I thought NGE to be much more confusing than .hack//SIGN. In fact, I never found .hack//SIGN to be confusing, it is only that way if you didn't watch it from the start. To compare the two series isn't really fair, I think.

I love Evangelion. I'd have probably given up on it but then Asuka appeared and that loud moutched **** captured my heart. I watched the series just to get more of Asuka and ended up realy enjoying it. I dont know how people entertain the idea that the series ending is the real ending. You watch the End of Evangelion and you see every last one of the unresolved story points tie together perfectly. Clearly Anno had that planned from the start.
Thats fine if you dont like it. Can't please everyone one. I just want people to know the facts thats all.Anime Monkey wrote:Wow, this topic took quite a turn... wonder if I should even get into it?

I'm glad you posted that stuff about the movie, because it helps me understand the TV series' ending a bit more. Even if I don't like the series, it's nice to know more about it, especially the more confusing parts.Rydis wrote:Thats fine if you dont like it. Can't please everyone one. Evangelion is a great series. It's definitely one of my favorites. I was disappointed, though, that the ending lectured such an illogical philosophy (i.e. Nothing exists outside of one's perception). Then again, it's an anime so it wasn't meant to be a philosophy class anyways
A great series nontheless
loved the shoe hatid the movies
