I've always though of it more as keeping ourselves from further harm. I mean, when you tell someone "If you do this very bad thing, we will kill you." and they do it anyway, isn't that the same as suicide by proxy? So technically the death penalty is murder, but assisted suicide. Or for a more to the point example, I don't really see it as being any different from putting down a rabid or vicious dog.

The biggest problem is that argument makes it hard to decide what's more humane: Euthanasia or the Death Penalty. In all honesty, both subjects are a loaded gun. Right on par with the abortion argument.

HOWEVER, the death penalty itself is a problematic issue. It shouldn't have to exist, but it does because we use it to control people. In England being drawn and quartered was something people went out to see.

Actually, when I see abortion protestors I picket THEM. I've done it 3 times now, and I have to say, its quite fun to section them off in yellow tape while blaring Dimmu Borgir from my radio.

... I'm not going to get into this conversation. In my life I have learned something, while it mostly applies with Religion, this is also one of those topic where it doesn't matter what side you take in a conversation you are likely to loose friends. So for the sake of the few friends I have on this site. I will not join in this, but I will say that I am For the Death Penalty if only for it being Vincent's best weapon on FF7. XD

speaking of death penalties, what forms of death penalties do they administer in your countries?

Meh, I'm American. We don't get a choice just Lethal Injection because "its humane."

I'd prefer being thrown from an airplane, I wanna leave my mark on the world after all... even if that mark's a crater.
