Re: Design Works
The next update is ready. It's Kite. (Saya?)

Re: Design Works
How I missed that pelvic thrust. He looks like a one of those cute little ninja toys you get in a quarter machine or something. He'd make the perfect action figure.
Re: Design Works
This one I could take or leave, it's not really as nice as either the original or the final version...

Re: Design Works
A segment from Staff Works. Here's an NCP. (I seem to remember a conversation about this)

Re: Design Works
The picture's kinda a bulletin that there will be squirrel-type beast people in this game. (the post also mentions there will be dog-types) That one is nicknamed "Risuko" (risu = squirrel) among the developers. They really like the minor PCs, and hope players do too. There's also talk about the different "flavor" of Link, and how making Tokio so different was deliberate. They'd already done the "hero," Kite, and the "badass," Haseo, so they wanted to make the third protagonist something closer to home, not some faraway hero from a faraway world, which is why they made him a student who really likes games, someone that in their words the player can feel affinity towards. The underlying mission of Link is to make an "All-of-.hack" game, but at the same time they're striving to make something new that even completely new players can really enjoy. That's the gist of the email. Also that they bump heads (maybe on whether or not to have squirrel people?) but everything works out in the end...
Between this and BlazBlue it seems like squirrel girls are coming into fashion...

Re: Design Works
A bit off topic possibly, but is it me or is every NPC you encounter in the Link demo a beast? Maybe I'm just not noticing human PCs but I do find this odd.

Re: Design Works
So wait, they're trying to make Tokio more sympathetic? I don't know what anyone else has to say, but at least Kite and Haseo had a reason for getting tied up in the crap they did... Tokio's just a wannabe gamer who wants to be the best at everything. Smells like Mary Sue to me...

Re: Design Works
But look on the other side of this. Kite and Haseo, (Aside from Sora), never had any intention on playing "The World", let alone a personal reason. They were both invited by their friends to try it. Unfortunately, they just happened to join in at the wrong time. They didn't sign up to become heroes, neither did they like it either. Basically, they were forced to play the role in order to save the ones they cared about.GyppyGirl2021 wrote:So wait, they're trying to make Tokio more sympathetic? Tokio on the other hand, dreamed of becoming a hero, but he never had a chance. After hearing the stories about Kite, Haseo, and others from the shop keeper, it just excited him even more. Now, Tokio has that chance to live that dream.

Re: Design Works
The fact that Tokio is essentially a self-insert trying to be the player just turns me off. As characters, Kite, Haseo and pretty much everyone else in the .hack series was sympathetic in one way or another. Tokio looks like he's trying too hard.
Re: Design Works
And that's what IMO made them good characters. Tokio is just dumb =/Advent_Winter wrote:But look on the other side of this. Re: Design Works
We don't even know what kind of character development Tokio might get yet, people. Hold off on the criticisms until the game is actually out. It's fine to have first impressions, but it's long since become annoying.
Oh, I know several members on the boards who can confirm that the players do indeed like the minor PCs, myself included.Kuukai wrote:They really like the minor PCs, and hope players do too.
Re: Design Works
Also he plays Tekken. I think most of us can relate to that. I guess Kite played soccer, but Haseo was a total recluse with a rich dad...Advent_Winter wrote:Tokio on the other hand, dreamed of becoming a hero, but he never had a chance. ...I wouldn't say he was...."rich". His dad just owned a major company and he went to a famous private school. And he lived alone.Haseo was a total recluse with a rich dad...

Re: Design Works
For poor people like me, that is rich. Though I'm not the one who originally said that.

And i'm beginning to understand Tokio and why he's like that a little more....but still, i don't agree. .Hack never had the need for "heroes" like that...in fact, i'd say it was awesome because characters didn't behave the way he does, and if they did, it was actually something minor when put in comparison to the rest of the plot.
