I actually loved ZED's rant and that is ALL stuff i also wondered on my own but got to the same resolution: nothing makes the sense it should make. But well, to shorten this up and possibly stop this one off-topicness
So in my opinion judging by the rules of the game, since you can't use weapons of a higher level until you reach that level, Ovan was at least level 78. Then again it's just a theory of mine.
We don't know, and we can't tell just by weapon level and perhaps not even by checking Ovan's stats or anything like that. Let's just say Ovan was high levelled enough, thazzit.

I would think that Haseo would be the best overall playing character, since he has four weapon modes to choose from, and you can control his Avatar. And since he reaches his Xth Form, his stats can go beyond those of a normal Adept Rogue, which would mean he wouldn't be held back by the normal Job Class limitations, correct?

My favorite party is Atoli and Silabus, with Haseo's scythe equipped. (It's so much easier to combo with scythes than it is other weapons that Haseo has, except maybe for Dual Guns but they're cheap and take horrid amounts of hits to Rengeki so there's really no point in using them for comboing, except to get bonuses in the Forest of Pain against weaker enemies. Broadswords are good for comboing but they take way too many slowly-gained hits without Rengeki+ customization, so I don't use them very much. And twin swords can't pick up a knocked-down enemy... that's my beef with them, otherwise I'd prefer them over scythes.)

I don't see why everyone has problems with magic users dying... the only one that really dies that often for me is Gaspard, and usually only against higher-level/stronger enemies. Of course, that might just be because I powerlevel insanely. And I find that more often than not, Atoli can keep a doomed combo going. I also like to set her to Free-Will and give her Vak Don/Ani Zot, then watch her eat away at enemies. (Plus, Flame Dancer is just cheap. There's no way around it... Atoli seems to be even better than Shino, at least for me, due to Flame Dancer.)

The only reason I particularly like Silabus is because he's one of the few Blade Brandiers I can stand personality-wise. Endrance makes me want to gag... Bordeaux makes me want to punch someone... Antares is meh... you get the point. I have a tendency to pick characters for preference rather than utility, but I do like Blade Brandiers as a class.

I don't know why, but when I take Kuhn along, I prefer to make him a sort of pseudo-Cleric, dumping healing scrolls on him and then setting him to Heal. This often interferes with me raising his bayonet skill level too... -.-

That's going to be a problem since his Level 3 art "Dust Bullet" uses almost 100+ SP when first recieved.

OR, if his Skill Level is low enough that he hasn't learned Dust Bullet yet, then just keep him that way and never level his skill up. Tempest Blast is the best art Steam Gunners can use in the game. Though if all you do with him is heal and don't let him arts at all, i don't think it would matter what his Skill Level is XD
