The stress of using all three MS jutsu's is what killed him. Though there is speculation that there was foul play involved with Itachis' untimely end. But the strongest theory I've seen is that Itachi was in another battle before fighting Sasuke. Kisame even said before his fight with Suigetsu, "Eh, I dont feel like being in ANOTHER fight.". So something was up there.

But if Sasuke did lose the fight, Itachi would have:

A. Been killed by someone in the konoha group (Either Kakashi or Naruto)

Wrong.

If Sasuke did lose the fight (which should have been at the beginning when Itachi used Tsukuyomi), then Itachi would have gotten his hands on those eyes he's longed for, beat the blindness, and then probably went after Madara or something.

And on a side note, if Kishimoto wasn't so....Shounen, then Kakashi and Naruto would have nothing against Itachi.

Now you see things in my light, don't you Kyero? But I must say, the way he got the Mangekyou was....idiotic. I mean, Itachi provoked Sasuke into fighting him, into killing him. Said he wanted his eyes for himself, and all that goodness. And now its revealed he wanted to protect Sasuke? Yea, after the next chapter, I'm waiting for Sasuke to get his own MS in one fell swoop as he killed his great big brother. Then Sasuke is going to pwn.

Yes yes, but then comes Naruto and learns to control his 4 tail self, I'm starting to think that Tobi isn't Obito. but he is using it as a host, like Orochimaru did or some ****, just a hunch... but yea Sauce gay is gonna pwn for a while... just remember.. the anime is called Naruto... for a reason.

i thought the Itachi - Sasuke Fight ended very cute, with that age old flick to the forehead. and honestly, i totally saw the whole " Itachi wasnt really bad, he just did things that were considered bad in order to protect you " thing from a mile away. His demeanor just reaked of it.

I vote for Sasuke, since i havent seen Tobi (*cough* Madara *cough*) fight, and because I personally think Itachi is an absolute idiot in some respects. If Itachi had a brain in his head he would deactivate the Sharingan once in a while so as to maintain the ability to see.

^ alright you say that as if he was always using mangekyou. he wasnt stupid at all, read the manga, im too tired to explein it.

Having the Sharingan activate doesn't cause the eye-deterioration, repeated use of the MS causes it. If the Sharingan by itself would cause it, Kakashi would have been blind by now, as his is constantly on.

Geez, pay attention to the story. This was stated many times in the manga, and its the main reason Madara started the eye theft craze.
