1st of all there is nothing good about what she is doing. By saying it's the devils work, yes it does throw a few people here and there off, but she uses that so that she can get one of the people who follow the trail to make the stone for her, that way she doesn't injure herself or anything.

2nd we don't have any idea what father wants. Unlike dante, the typical villain, He hasn't told us what he plans to with a gigantic array around the entire country which he possibly created.

3rd-can you beat leaking a philosophers stone into a living human from a third eye in order to create just 1 more sub-ordinate? I don't think so. not to mention he can nulify alchemic abilities of ed and alphonse, who've seen the gate mind you, he has the top brass in the military under his command(thanks to wrath) and he's always got a plan up his sleave which doesn't involve running away.

I don't know what you think is better about a villain whose motivations are never revealed. To me, it's more interesting if the villain has a clearly stated objective, rather than being an entity who exists solely to oppose the good guys.

And Dante has control of the Military too, just the same as Father.

Not only that, but Dante actually succeeds in killing Ed, even if it's only temporary. That's more than Father's ever done.

yeah, because father is using them as human pawns, and is holding winry as the un-official hostage. If ed or al step out of line or say something they shouldn't have, then winry is dead. Not to mention that if anyone else takes one step out of line, he'll punish them by eradicating an entire town.

And, granted that knowing what your enemy wants to do is definatly a plus when it comes to storylines, but the villains plan is sometimes better left to the audiences speculation. I mean, until Dante was revealed to be the leader of the homunculi, everyone was going "why are they doing this?". Granted that in one of the earlier episode's(anime) they said they just want to become human but until then nobody knew what they were doing. Manga wise, it wasn't until father was introduced that we found out that they were working for a higher being.

Exsisting solely to defeat the goodie is what scar is there for. We already know that father's got a giagantic transmutation circle around amestris and at some point in the future will get Edward, alphonse, maybe izumi kurtis and hoenhiem and one more(seemingly it will be roy mustang) to activate it, but as for why, we don't yet know.

And aside from that he creates his own phiosophers stones and calls ed and als dad (hoenhiem) "it" not him, which just more mystique and speculation to everything relating to father. Dante was too straightforward and less subtle in doing stuff.

Still, that seems like stock villainy to me, just on a larger scale. The reason I like Dante more is probably because she makes people have the desire to create the Stone. She rarely resorts to direct threats and blackmail: the people she manipulates actually believe they are pursuing their own goals.

And you have to admit, it's pretty ballsy to manipulate a couple ten years olds until they're well into their teenage years just to screw them both over.

And Dante also wins for screwing over her own minions in some of the most creative ways I've ever seen.

And the fact that Dante is the Elric brothers' stepmom is another kickass jab.

"Ed, I AM YOUR MOTHER! sorta kinda."

"NOOOOOOOOOO! a little..."

I'd go with father. He hasn't met his end yet, and he's of to a good start. All he can do is develope his evil role further. Besides, from what I've seen so far, he seems much more stable than Dante.
