There is really horrible rap out there, but not all rappers are materialistic and write *bleep* lyrics that don't really mean anything.

some rap is standable depending on whos singing it what the lyrics are and for me personally the mood im in
but mostly the music I personally focus on is alternative,rock and all different kinds of metal

And just a side note: Just like people, don't generalize a whole genre based upon the mainstream. Most of the rap in the news and played on the radio is quite despicable, but the rap genre itself can't be.
I dislike metal because of it's musical qualities and what the muscial base is, not because, say something like, "z0mg, that metal nonsense, THEYR DEVAL WURSHIPRS!". Not that I would ever say anything like that. Meh.

There's one rap song that I think deserves to be praised, even by those who hate the genre: Baby Got Back.
Sir Mix-A-Lot should be knighted for real, just for writing that stirring composition.

Dang! I'm the only one who voted R&B! I really R&B, though....
Also, I dig hip hop (hyphy especially), rap, some pop, classic rock, classical, jazz, oldies, and opera.
Oh yeah, and BABY GOT BACK FTW!!!:P Stop hating on rap and hip hop, ayte? The hip hop lovers online have to deal with more crap online! That and it does take good vocabulary and knowledge of the good stuff to rap. I mean, not all rap and hip hop is about sex and drugs. If you think about it, rock, emo, techno, metal, punk, etc. has some damn lyrics about sex, drugs, and murder, too.
