I stopped watching after that. I hope Light burns in hell for that.

Hiroko Asahina's death in RahXephon. I cried when she died but then they brought her back to life at the end of the series.

Although this is off topic, I'll say that the saddest anime moment for me had to be the end of a later episode of fruits basket, leaving Tohru in the rain. Now that moment was difficult to watch.
Agreed But then add the deaths of all those pretty Rei clones from Eva

After reading the end of Death Note I cried. Seeing all of Kira's justice fade completely away is depressing. I wish some of his legacy would have been left behind, like people would have realized it's better to love one another, even if noone is going to kill you if you don't live a righteous life.

I think Nina's death (Shou Tucker's daughter) was a sad one ._. Even when she was turned into a Chimera.

I think that nina's death is probably the highest voted for, followed closely by deathnote's spoilery death

I just want to put some side commentary, and this is not a jab at anyone, nor you personally Daichi, but this happens far too often and I feel if I shed some light on the problem it will help in the future.
Here's how this works. When a moderator edits a section of text by adding spoiler tags, it
does not affect later quotes that contain that same text. So when you quote somebody's spoiler and tell them that it should be concealed, you should conceal your copy of the spoiler as well. Otherwise your pointing out the spoiler serves no purpose and just makes it take a bit longer for a moderator to hide all instances of the spoiler. And sometimes the same spoiler is quoted multiple times. It's a real headache. x_x

Fay from Tsubasa's death was quite sad, although it's just getting confusing.

So what was the saddest death in an anime you watched?
why?
mine was maes from fma.
the thing that got me was his daughter asking where her papa went.
I think of that one, then the other in FMA when they did the Chymera episodes. When that little girl died because her father used her to make the Chymera, I was in tears T.T;
After that, in the later episodes, they changed the ending to this sad song called I will. They show pictures of Maes, the girl, Scar and their mother. T__T

Yeah, I remember those deaths
But the one that killed me the most when Nina ( or Mina, Mena I can't remeber the name correctly ) died, actually she was killed by Scar ( THAT BASTARD

)
But I started to like him after what his backround story was, then I was sad when he left too
Why do they always kill off the favorites, I don't really get it

I guess it's to add so much suspense that it can kill you to!

Yes, but considering the fact that she'd of become a test subject, trapped in a life of subjegation and what-not UNTIL SHE DIED I'm guessing that her death was probably for the best(As cruel as it may seem)

FMA had a lot of sad deaths.
Heck, I cried when Lust died.
But the first one that came to mind when I read the title of this thread was Wolfwood from Trigun.
Then there was that one girl from Outlaw Star that Jim liked.... But her death was more ironic than sad, though it was sad.
