It's not so bad..Passé wrote:I am... unimpressed.
Mikiru and Haruhi sound horrible. I understand Mikiru is generally whiney, but she's nowear near as nasal in the Japanese version. Haruhi's voice is too deep. Kyon sounds fine but... damn. I don't want to hear Koizumi or Nagato's voice anymore.
I'll just buy the English dub so I can get exact subtitles.
But... damn.

All the voice actors they picked have pretty impressive resumes.

oh, they have good resumes, so even though they sound terrible, that makes it ok ^^
lol
this is why i hate dubs. they destroy the characters, cant say their own names, sound like idiots, let alone any other normal american O_o
i just find that their voices, their characters and the original voices just do not agree one bit. that may not matter if i like them though, but i dont lol

Eh, Haruhi isnt hyper enough and Mikuru is too high (English dubs NEVER get high pitch voices right). I like Kyon though, it reflects his cynicsm and apathy well.
The problem I have with dubs is that they are inconsistent regardless of how experienced the voice actors are. One time they are awesome, another time so-so, another time its just awful. Not that I blame them, since anime is made to tailor for the Japanese seiyuu. Localization of any media will always be awkward regardless of where it came from.

I bring up their resumes because it shows that they have experience. Meaning they won't have crap acting skills.
Honestly, why does every dub voice HAVE to match their Japanese counterpart?
This is exactly what happens when you watch raw/subs before a dub, you have something to compare to.
@hawthorneluke:
"can't say their own names"
Counterexamples: Naruto and FLCL.
Whatever, though. Go ahead and be angry if you want.

I have heard Itsuki's voice, and am perfectly fine with it.

Now, I decided to rewatch it a few times. Mikiru's is actually pretty good, considering how high pitch it is. Most English woman couldn't get it that high, especially for ten minutes straight.
The voices I have problems with so far: Suzumiya, Nagato. ;_; Fantastic.
EDIT: Well, I found a fandub I really, really liked. Yuki's voice was spot on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGa_Qm9A ... ed&search=

I have no idea why I didn't like it! Just... something about her tone wasn't exactly right.S1lentOp wrote:I have a problem with Suzumiya's and a little bit with Mikuru's, but that's it. I thought Nagato's was fine.Passé wrote:The voices I have problems with so far: Suzumiya, Nagato.

I thought Mikuru's voice fit well (enough)
Kyon's was ok
Didnt really like Suzumya's
Koizumi seem like his voice doesnt fit as well. Maybe they should have used Endrance's VA or one of those VAs who have that sort of elegant, young voice I thought the jap Koizumi had.
Yuki's was pretty good. She's quiet, so she seems about right.(sounds alittle more girly tho than the jap version, not as serious)

That's my problem with it. She sounds quiet and bored, not deadpan and neutral.k-su wrote:Yuki's was pretty good. She's quiet, so she seems about right.(sounds alittle more girly tho than the jap version, not as serious)

I wished that Yuki's VA would be the same as Rei's from NGE. I neglected to revisit the ASOS site after the week for Mikuru's VA. I'm kicking myself everyday not listening on what the other character VA possibilities and even more so on not voting for a different VA.Passé wrote:That's my problem with it. So far the only VAs that are giving me problems is that of Kyon and Haruhi. Crispin Freeman does not sound like a person who I would choose for Kyon's voice. IMO I think that Kari Wahlgren would have been a much better choice for Haruhi, *sigh* oh well

Personally I've always liked Crispin Freeman as a VA, so I think he'll be able to pull this off the way he usually does like in other video games and animes.SnowManZero wrote:Kyon was dead on the mark, I reckon.

Well if at the very least, the DVD should come with the full, unedited ED dance like the one in Japan. I would at least buy the english DVD for that.

Well
I agree with you all about Haruhi's VA. I really don't like the voice, at all.
It doesn't sound Hyper or sound like she is conceded. I was rather dissapointed.
But, to tell you the truth, I'll pick it up anyway.
