If they do have a "Lesbian" relationship it would be kinda wierd because Subaru has not legs XD... Making her incapable of this? Whatever... Idk what they do, but I am sure that tehy aren't intiment... maybe like real close, but again not lovers. Maybe they fantasize (don't we all wish LOL) anyway, considering the way they are so comfortable with each other I wouldn't scratch it off, but I wouldn't consider it to much unless your into that... umm I heard it once the Hento thing or whatever...

Do you think anybody in an online relationship truly cares who the person on the other side is?

Sorry if this has already been said. I was too lazy to read the whole thread.

I'm saying IF their relationship was anything more than a friendship... I seriously doubt Subaru or Tsukasa cared how the other looked like irl. They were bonded spiritually.  When Tsukasa told Subaru that he was a she, Tsukasa then asked her if she still wanted to meet irl, Subaru said yes, and that she didn't care about Tsukasa being a girl. She also said more than once that she was touched by Tsukasa's soul. Tsukasa probably felt the same. So I think the reality of  Subaru not being able to walk didn't matter that much to them.

Friendship comes from the heart. Not from social rules.

Things didn't go down the drain at all. Subaru didn't seem at all to be disappointed or upset.

Love transcends gender.

Since a significant amount of replies got deleted mysteriously... I wonder why

They were friends. Just because they both wanted to see eachother in real life doesn't make them sexually attracted to eachother. All the lovey-dovey stuff that happened between the two happened BEFORE they realized  he was a girl. After that, their relationship changed. They didn't grow apart, but their bond was different in that it was a close friendship, rather than lovers. You notice Subaru doesn't act the same way as she did before and acts more as an encourager, a friend, just as everyone else was (Crim, Bear, Mimiru, etc..). Once again, the fact that they wanted to see eachother outside of "The World" does not make them lovers. After all, Tsukasa also had other reasons to log out as well. Other than realizing that the real world isn't as terrible as he had originally thought, and that not everyone was selfish, he also had engagements with other characters offline as well. Hanging out with Mimiru and meeting Bear about the sponsor thing. They weren't crucial reasons for him to leave, but they were important. Remember, the whole reason Tsukasa wanted to stay in "The World" was because he hated the real one. In real life his mother died, he was abused by his father, and basically lived the life of a true loner. He saught refuge in the video game to escape it all and finally found a way to live without having to put up with the "ludicrous world." But later on in the story our main character slowly begins to open up to people, make friends, and eventually come to the revelation that not everyone is selfish and that there are good people in the world. Thus giving him encouragement to leave. I'm not saying this to say that Subaru wasn't the reason he left, but that it wasn't the only reason he wanted to leave and that because they wanted to leave "The World" and meet eachother, doesn't make them lovers.

There are many, many hints and clues throughout the story that indicate a change in the relationship between Tsukasa and Subaru. Both before and after they find out about Tsukasa. What might have been a relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend, became a relationship between two close friends.

Love transcends gender.
That's another debate entirely.

But if there were "many, many hints and clues", then why do you think that it became a relationship between just two close friends?

Well, considering all that happened in the last few episodes after Subaru found out the truth, they didn't exactly have time to be lovey-dovey.

What makes you so sure? After all, do you think those hints and clues were just there for no reason? >_>

You misread my first message. They were hints and clues indicating they were straight... That was the whole arguement.

Whoops, sorry about that. Would you mind listing some of the "hints and clues"?

I've heard that in the Japanese version of .hack//SIGN in the scene at the end where Tsukasa and Subaru meet offline, they kiss, I never saw this for myself, however, as I don't have access to the japanese version, if someone could check it out though, and inform us on the outcome, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I have a sub'd version of the Japanese ending...

In the end of the English one the just say 'hello' and 'welcome back', right? Well in the Japanese one once they notice each other and turn around, they run (And Subaru uses her wheel chair) together and at the very end they put their hands together, fingers laced.

Why would Tsukasa ask Subaru if she still wanted to meet her after she admitted she was female? I mean sure there was a bit of deceit to clear up, but if they really wanted to stay as 'just friends' then I don't think gender would have mattered enough to ask about it. She didn't have to ask Mimiru about it.

Anyways, I heard in Zero or Analysis that they say Subaru and Tsukasa put their genders aside and realize that it doesn't matter, that they want to continue on and be in a relationship with each other.

Tsukasa's supposed to be about fourteen and Subaru is supposed to be in her early twenties. I don't think they let age get in the way either.

O.o wow...that's a semi-big gap...
