That I am still debating upon...mainly because I don't have an extensive knowledge of the .hack universe like I do with other shows. It might end up being something that has the same themes, but doesn't exist within the actual continuity to allow me to be free with the story.

Always good to have creative freedom. If you base it in an American server then there should be almost no chance of anyone even knowing of the canon characters.

Shugo, Duke Nukem Forever has been "in production" for over a decade.

Doesn't mean I know what it is.

Duke nukem is an overly violent and somewhat sexist game about a guy who shoots and kills aliens and hangs out with prostitute's.

Here is a trailer for it. Despite its title, it does not actually "show" anything, only eludes to certain things and cuts off before anything actually happens to keep it clean and somewhat appropriate.
