The "infinity eight" (the eight characters named in the trailers) are the ones who can use avatars. You don't need to be infected by AIDA (the dark matter) to use yours, though it might help kickstart things. In Rebirth: Haseo, Pai, Kuhn, and Endrance use theirs.
