Well, here's my theory...
Tri-Edge is probably Kite, just infected. Anns is probably controlling his character. Kite is still in there...I mean comatose, but he's fighting to get out. Thats why Tri-Edge is sort of weird(in the trailer, he's wandering around with the flames, his eyes are freaky. I think its because there are 3 personalties in there, Kite, Tri-Edge, and anna. It's to much for him. There are probably reasons for the Data-Drains too... I mean, Haseo was on rampage! He was pking a lot of people, and in the trailer Haseo looked a lot like a demon type player(skeith?). In the trailer, Tri-Edge, when he wiped out those blades and they opened up...he had a very serious face. Not pyscho, serious, like a "You are distubing The World." face. Basically, he was giving him a chance to stop pking. But Haseo wiped out the blades and ran to attack. When Haseo was Data Drained, Tri-Edge might have been giving him a chance to start over. You know...like get back up again after your mistakes? But of course, he doesn't. He loathes Tri-Edge and tries to kill him. All I know is, Tri-Edge is definitly really shady and kinda pyscho cause he's got 3 perosnalities in him. He doesn't know what to do!
Oh yeah, I'm a avid fan of .hack...but I don't own a ps2, none of the games and watch the anime sometimes(Dot hack legend of twilight, I got the manga too) Yeah...I go to friends house to play the games, and thats like, we we can't play ToS. So, I sort of don't know the storyline for 1-4..so I could be wrong.

My theory is that Tri-Edge has something deeper to do with The World, kinda like Aura.
I think that he is so disgusted with how The World has become so corrupt with all the PKs and whatever that he's trying to return it to it's former glory, or something like that.
I agree with him not being evil, but if his plans goes against that of Haseo than he will have to be dealt with.
