I'd have to say that the eight phases couldn't be the eight Gods. Htis is because we know that Aurora and Anu were two of the eight Gods. That would leave only the six elemental Gods. If the eight phases were the Gods, then there would have been ten Gods. Simple math.

However, I believe that the phases could have been under the direction of all eight Gods.

From this it sounds as if the sealing was a good thing. Perhaps Aurora was willingly sealed to be unsealed when she was needed again at a future time.

In the trailer, it shows the sanctuary where Aurora would have been sealed. The statue, assuming it was her, was missing. This could tie in to the overall story, though I'm not going to try and predict how. It was just a thought related to the topic. As for the shadow, I have no clue as to who it was, but I'm digging now to try and get some ideas.

Also, I found out that Anu was the sky god who ruled all other gods in Mesopotamian mythology.

This does sound like the sealing was needed. Aurora does sound like Aura but we don't know for sure. However if it is indeed Aura and she was sealed then it could mean that the other seven gods some how knew that the world was going to be destroyed. Maybe the gods sealed Aurora not keep her locked away but to protect her from the new data being added to the world. Also like KrulMagus said she was meant to be released in the future, but she hasn't yet. This would explain all the things that happen in the game. If I was wrong in anything then I'm sorry for wasting your time.

I'm wondering if this has any connection to the Gods mentioned in AI buster 2. In the Lin story, he talks about the old god and the new god, (pretty obvious who we're talking about here). but i think it should fit in with this somewhere...

Mostly, the pages on 2_6 and beyond cover the ancient history of The World; 10 years prior to "present" day. Apaprently, some power of "shadow" was sealed under the guidance of the 8 gods*, and without that battle to unite them, peace did not last very long, and people began to quarrel with one another. All but Aurora of the 8 gods departed, and fearing that Aurora's light would be lost to the world, she was sealed in Grima Lowe.

Let me see if I've got all the parallels here.

Of the Eight Phases, only Corbenik remains due to a dubious deletion.
Of the Eight Gods, only Aurora remains, and is "sealed" to preserve her light.

Of the Eight G.U. PCs, Ovan "The Rebirth" happens to have his arm locked up in an iron casket.

Actually, Corbenic suffered the same fate as all the other Phases. Data Draining isn't a factor, since he was rebooted, absorbed, reconfigured, and pretty much delt with the same as the other Phases because of Aura's crucifixion.

Just something I noticed: Anu's nickname "The Morning Star" was also a name for Lucifer.
