Doubt it. They're not as a big a company as some giant Western developers. In that regard, there are only so many games they can be developing simultaneously. As of now, they're aiding FFVII Remake development, Naruto Storm 4 Expansion is almost out, their other mobile games they constantly pump out, that Third Person Shooter Original IP they mentioned like a year ago is being made - so I'm not sure they have the available manpower to work full-time on another big project.

I may be persuaded to believe that very minor pre-production for the next .hack is happening in the background, but that would still mean it would be years before we hear of the game. Plus it's their 20th anniversary (they're advertising it through their entire website), so you would think there would be .hack something for this big date? But since there isn't, I suppose their priorities have shifted.

If anything, I could see another anime OVA or movie being a more likely scenario than a new game, as sad as that sounds :(
I don't know, maybe when the PS5 launches in a few years? Or maybe when they re-brand as CC3? Who knows, but I wouldn't have my hopes up.
Last year was their 20th. This year is .hack's 15th.

I think it'll be either some news this year whether it be at E3 or TGS, or more likely when they break off from Bamco (as they seem to be with Project Venom and their new studio) and rebrand as CC3. .hack is their flagship series. It's what saved them from bankruptcy. I just feel like there's no way they can let it go, especially with how it's been since 2012.

I just want them to do one final movie, game, or something to wrap this all up and call it a day so I can stop crossing my fingers every year that something will happen. My ultimate dream: .hack's story is completed and they release The World FORCE:ERA so I can continue to enjoy the series forever. That'll never happen, though

You both make a good point. They only have 169 Employees and they can only stretch so much. On the brighter side they do have that studio in Montreal however. : http://www.cc2.co.jp/montreal/. And I think your right, they wouldn't forget an anniversary and we know they did something back in June for New World. :

I didn't know that actually. So basically .hack is the Final Fantasy of CC2!!

Yeah they did just finish with New World. And it does seems like their running out of timeline to use. Though if you had to choose, which one would you prefer. (I guess they could release a manga, novel, or anime if they wanted to get thing started again but...)

Overall though how does everyone feel .hack//Bullet will end?

Here is a lengthy interview with Matsuyama about the formation of CyberConnect and how .hack was what saved them from going under. It's from around G.U.'s release, I'm pretty sure. It's a very interesting read!

About Bullet...
Obviously Yuri will be defeated, and Ryuuji will (somehow) find out about Mama. I guess. I just want some juicy .hack backstory stuff, really.

Ch.41 - http://www.cc2.co.jp/hack_bullet/41_endure.html

Think alongside the epilogue they'll announce a physical book release for Bullet? I'm sure the author will need a heck of a postscript/afterword for this one since they've been working on this for like 5 years O.o;

Wasn't it originally supposed to run over the course of a year? I'm interested in hearing about exactly what stopped it along the way. I'm glad they're finishing it at all, though.

PS--I recently stumbled upon your website, Lindz! You have a great taste in games. :D

I imported P5 back in Sept, put 70h into it without understanding a word. It's a very good game.

I finally finished reading the article. I kind of found it ironic how CyberConnect2 came into existence. Matsuyama didn't believe in community, but it was his belief in community that spurred him into continue the company and his knowledge that there needed to be less community for things to go on and so on... Also regarding mobile games Atsushi Iwata was okay predictor actually...

I would be cool if they did something similar to Digimon Cyber Sleuth, or Persona and had a in-game distinction between Alba and The Real World and moved the multimedia stuff they usually do into a single game.

So... the final chapter just went live. There are officially no more ongoing .hack entries. I suppose the long and indefinite wait begins now.

Has anybody who's able to understand Japanese already read it?
I seriously can't wait for the spoilers. The last picture looks as if the story isn't fully done yet. The LN is finished of course, but I wonder.. Without context seems like there is still an active enemy out there, or even a new hidden threat or something.

Cool, this is either end of .hack or a great opportunity for something brand new (with everything else being cancelled or concluding). I would even take a reboot from the beginning.

Though the main story is still unresolved, of course... Bullet takes place in between 3rd season, not after.

2014: 6 chapters
2015: ---
2016: 9 chapters
2017: 4 chapters

- M.I.A.
沈黙

Chapters 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, and 28 were part of the great late 2013 shakeup. They weren't previously on the upcoming chapters list but suddenly appeared there, displacing many other chapters.

Well, Bullet's translate is finally over.

Bullet and Link are both finished, Looking forward to the next project that will come to the end of the translation, the hope of Zero or Epitaph of Twilight being translated, still lives.
